It doesn't have to be legal for you to have some you know.

Yeah. No. I am still a government employee subject to random drug tests. They would love to fire me and take my pension. Soon, in 6 months I won't care.

That's kind of in the middle of nowhere.
I'm plotting my eastern jaunt for later in the month. On the 21st I'm driving out to Pittsburgh to watch the Chicago Bears play there that Sunday night. I decided that as long as I was out there, afterwards I would go to Gettysburg, where I'd never been. Looking at the map I saw how close it was to D.C. so I'm going to do a drive by and hopefully hook up with Ali, Lucimay and Creator for dinner on the 23rd.
Afterward I plan to head home via a visit to Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello, and a stop in Cincinnati.

Damelon, if you are into natural wonders and you're in VA you should go to Luray Caverns. Just wow. Trust me.
Just had a great time with Linna Heartlistener and her family!! They were passing through town so they stopped in for pancakes and good conversation and hugs!! It was so great to meet a Watch friend in person.

Awesome!
...maybe now you'll figure out a way to come to 'fest 4 next year. Maybe you and Av can somehow mesh your travel schedules.

coming home Monday my neighbor (I guy used to work with at the prison) flagged me down and told me he saw someone trying to break into the house next door to us.
the house has been abandoned by the previous owner who owned it for years before we moved in.
well this happened two hours before I got home and the guy failed to call the police. so I had Julie call the police and I went with the neighbor and checked the property out.
the back gate was opened and I found that the back garage door was also open. in the garage is a ladder that goes into an attic, not sure if it connects to the house.
we exited and two Angleton officers and a state trooper showed up. (the trooper happened to be in the area.) it's good that Julie works for the city sometimes. all three officers checked the premises and lectured my neighbor on proper calling procedure. ie - you call at the time of the crime.
they assured us that the premises were empty and promised to do some drive-bys to ensure a police presence.
the next day Julie contacted code enforcement. they ascertained that the home owner is still on the deed, the bank has not foreclosed yet. but next week the city will come by and mow the yard, cutting the foliage that hides the front door.
Julie has promised that when they are done I can go and cut down anything left.
crackheads squatting in abandoned houses in my small town is certainly a sign of the times.

He was married to my mother for 50 years and three weeks after her death he moved his girlfriend in. She died one month or so ago and he has met and fallen in love with a new woman who he is moving into his home. I just do not understand how anyone can be so terrified of being alone. His whole sense of self worth is measured based on the woman he is with and how much she loves him.
Your father sounds a lot like my ex-husband. He's on wife #4 (I was #2). My theory is that he had inadequate mothering as a kid and is continually looking for someone to take care of him.
How cool that Deer and Linna got together!
Luray's pretty cool. Monticello is also cool.

Luray would add a couple of hours' travel time to the trip -- you'd have to go out I-66 to I-81 and then drop south. After the cavern tour, you could keep going south on 81 until you hit I-64 and head back toward Charlottesville.

Yahhh! It was awesome.
My hubby and I were like...
way more cheerful on the trip home than we usually are (or at least more cheerful than I usually am!) because we were psyched from meeting you and your hubby.
And it WAS a crazy trip... Neither my sister nor I had thought anything of feeding the 3-year-old fajitas the night before. (oops.) And... my navigating was pretty terrible the whole day... (argh!) A few hours away from home, we remembered that our apartment complex was having parking lots resurfaced and we'd have to park on the street. (inconvenient!)
But, all in all... some good stuff. Had gone out east for my sister's wedding.

Had a really weird, sleep-deprived day yesterday after getting back.
sarge- wild!
lorin- that sounds stressful/exasperating. Dads... can be so exasperating. I often think that with family, we're like, "I know this person's ways SO well... (we know all the dirt on them!) I should be able to influence him." But in practice, it feels like we have
less influence, not more. (or maybe that's just my big issue!
one of 'em.)

I'm a little sore, due to having had an appendectomy last week, but in good spirits.

Spent a few days in Vermont, where Stag and I met and Fawn and Buck were born. Made time for visiting old friends, besides the business stuff, and for hiking in the woods.

"Jefferson's personal Batcave"?

That is a great expression.
I've had a cool morning so far.
Stopped at a pet shop and got to hold a scorpion! (of a really chill, almost-never-really-stings species)
And a juvenile Bearded Dragon. (lizard)
SQUEEEE!

If you've been, you'll understand. But I did steal that from those They Might Be Giants boys.

Productive day - Tickets for next years Commonwealth Games in Glasgow applied for. Find out at end of month if we've got any in the ballot.
The Last Dark pre-ordered.

"Jefferson's personal Batcave" I guess I'll find out about that.
While aimlessly browsing yesterday I discovered there's a PGA tournament nearby to me this weekend. I called my BIL, who is looking into getting us a couple of tickets for Saturday.

Whew, it has been almost non-stop raining in Denver over the last few days. It feels like living in Oregon or Washington. I think I'm only annoyed because I started edging the yard right before it started, and haven't been able to finish. But there has been some bad flooding in Boulder. And I found this little tidbit in the news:
Boulder County Sheriff's Office confirmed to 9NEWS that a "wall of water" came down Left Hand Canyon Thursday morning and trapped a firefighter in a nearby tree. Emergency crews are currently trying to rescue the firefighter.
I keep picturing the "emergency crews" composed of kittens.
