At least with a PC when something goes wrong, I can fix it myself, even if it takes a while.

ahh...but nothing goes wrong. And if you make a tangled mess of an apple you can take it to the 'genius bar'

yeah, but for those of us 'technochallenged' it is a big help, free and a chance to look at all the toys we can't afford.
(which I suspect is exactly the plan)

For those disinclined to have to travel to an Apple store to visit a Genius Bar, consider the new Kindle Fire models, with a Mayday button. Amazon's geniuses will pop up on your screen and either talk you through whatever your need is or will fix it by remote control.
No, they are not all redheads named Amy...

Nobody remotes into my systems.

Hahaha, I'm pretty sure. My precautions are, let's say, extensive.

Damn, I'm broken.
4.5 hours sleep, then up at 5ish, left home at 6 for a 2 hour drive to one of the most brutal 8 hour hikes I've ever undertaken, through a couple of gorges, over rocks, down freezing bloody mountain streams, followed by a 2 hour drive back home.
Suspect I'm not going to be walking well tomorrow. I'm off to bed.

Sounds like a blast.
Speaking of blasts.....in the middle of an arctic blast. 10 degrees and huge winds driving snow into drifts. Haven't been able to get dug out.
Helldog is built for snow, loves it and she took one step out of the house and made a uturn right back in. It is soooo cold.

Having worked over new year, tonight is my new year.
Wife and kids are in France until Sunday, so sitting here with the dog, having some beers and a very nice malt whisky or three (Talisker - yum)
Starship troopers is on the telly in 5 minutes (having watched Aliens last night), I'm loving being in complete control of the remote.
Might be slightly hungover in the morning, but there's always hair of the dog to consider.
My best wishes to all Watchers for 2014.

Starship Troopers is a great c movie.
back starting on Wednesday morning, at work. took my anti-inflammatories. seems a little better now. need it much better by sunday midnight.
my captain texted me and said an inmate stabbed another inmate in closed custody and two c/o's were led out by the state troopers in handcuffs.
will update after I go to work.

Well, yesterday was my first day back at work after the holidays.
Got a nice surprise when the boss came in, declared that the holiday had been too short, (we closed on the 13th Dec) and gave everybody the rest of the week off. We'll start again on Monday.

That is like something out of a fantasy novel. Those kind of things never
really happen.

Hahaha, well, I'm sitting at home right now instead of having been at work for 2.5 hours, so there must be
something to it...

So, I have been working on learning the craft of glass art. For every step forward there is one epic fail. It's expensive to fail at this craft. The glass is expensive, the tools are expensive and the electric bill has shot through the roof. But it's addictive. You sure do make a lot of mistakes in the learning. And the other problem, is for the most part, I am learning on my own. For some strange reason the is very very little in the way of craft classes in LI. This is one of the reasons I need to exit next year. There are plenty of beaches, plenty of highways, plenty of malls and PLENTY of bmw's. But craft classes are few and far between.
Anyway 2 pics of my latest earrings. I am not very good at wiring yet. I just figured out (thank you, YouTube) how to drill holes in glass.

I'm experiencing double vision. I just saw these on another thread! As I said there, they are beautiful, but as I don't have holes in my ears I never wear earrings. The only jewellery I ever wear these days is my wedding ring and a ring that belonged to my mother in law. My engagement ring has worn through, and my eternity ring is also getting very thin due to a couple of enlargings. I certainly can't play the piano without these two rings, or with any extra ones on. Must affect the balance or something.

I'm still like, "yay, knowing you're going to fail sometimes and still going ahead and doing it... Go, you!"
I "third" the sentiment that the earrings are pretty.

Wild! sounds like someone's spent a LOT of time playing the piano and gotten very used to those circumstances....

57 years I suppose, I started when I was 4, but I don't remember wearing rings that young.

It has to be something to do with balance. I can play without them of course, but it isn't as comfortable.

I can't wear rings. Can't bear the obstruction between two fingers. Drives me crazy.
Only jewellery I wear is 3 small hoops in my left ear. They were silver for 20 years, but I just switched them to black surgical steel a few weeks ago.
