Hell NO! Its 2 lower back next to each other. Aside from my vanity issues, the endodontist (who is not doing the implant) says that it will throw off the bite on my upper teeth. I plan to go to my grave with a full set of permanent teeth. Now I'm not saying they will be the ones I am born with but they will be mine. Apparently this is just another outcome of 20 years of civil service, clenching my teeth to prevent tearing out someone's throat.
Lorin, keep your teeth if you can! Believe me, it's a lot easier than the alternative. I hope someone will be able to provide me with a glass of water (to put my false teeth in overnight) when I get to ABQ!

Yeah, snow. :( We got about 4 inches, and as usual, you would have thought the world was ending. Metro cancelled bus service up the hill to my apartment building (to be fair, it's a steep hill, and there are several bus stops along it -- I could easily see a bus either stopping and not getting going again, or not stopping at all) so I had to walk down the hill to the bus station. The sidewalks had been cleared (glory be!) so that part wasn't a problem. But then the usual 10- to 15-minute ride on the subway turned into a 45-minute ordeal thanks to a disabled train at Rosslyn. And then at Foggy Bottom, this belligerent guy in a wheelchair got on and blocked the door just enough that the doors wouldn't close. Somebody finally got up and moved him out of the way so the doors would close -- and the guy nearly cussed him out for touching his wheelchair. Gods, I love DC.

This has been a hugely stressful year. So I decided to do what any over weight, stressed out American does in an emotional crisis. Take a cruise. Leaving today on a 9 day out of NYC. I am going to take my book (guess which one?) plant myself on the sun deck and work on my melanoma for a week.

You really can't beat the price and if you don't need a window, avoid all the salesman selling EVERYTHING, bring your own booze (I smuggle it in) it can be a cheap vacation. I paid $450 for the 9 days.

So I'm off (in more than one way  ).

Back!! Nice time had by all but I wouldn't want to do it too often. A lot of... well, a lot of everything.

I went to St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, St. Marteen, Dominican Republic, Curacao. Curacao is my favorite island, St. Thomas is my least. But it was just nice to get in the sun though I didn't bake. Winter in the islands is nice, not too hot. It's just that the gluttony gets to me.

Welcome back from the cruise, lorin!
Those places sound lovely.

I've been thinking of posting here lately, because for the last 2 days, I've been pretty happy/excited...I tried something difficult, but which really matters to me... and things really actually... worked.

I called my dad.

I pretty much go for months at a time, sometimes a year or so, without talking to him.

And.. you know how there's the difference between "an unequivocal success" and situations where there's like, "I think this conversation was mostly good, except for this or that reservation I have about it."?
Well, it was "an unequivocally good conversation."

For me, being the wacky person we all know I am... my goal is to share the Gospel with him. (I think this has been a major life-goal of mine for the past 15 years or so. It's really near to my heart.)
Well, my dad and I talked a lot about things that were near to that subject. That is big for me.

Though, sigh... an awkward topic was the "reward" you got for bein' thoughtful and asking me what's up, lorin.

I think it's wonderful when you can find a common ground with a parent. I admire your efforts. It can't be easy and really speaks to your resolve. I have never ever found anything to all to talk to my parents about but truthfully I gave up trying. So the fact that you could do it and it was such a tricky subject as religion is fantastic. Keep up the efforts and it can only get better. Good for you!!!!!!

Surgery went well. Though I had an anxiety attack pre surgery. In splints and gauze that needs changing tomorrow. Lots of pain, lots of pain medication. Julie has stayed home to care for me. Typing this left handed.
