MsMary wrote:Anyone still watching Doctor Who season 9? The last three episodes have been great!
I've pretty much loved all of S9. The "found Footage" episode was a little weak, but, I've really enjoyed all the rest of the episodes this Season, much stronger than last Season, IMHO.

I know, right? That would be amazing.

Twist: the Doctor, mind still preoccupied with the missing memories, regenerates into Jenna Louise Coleman.

(Much as I think this'd be funny story-wise, I don't think she'd be right for playing the Doctor, so just a fun thought.)

Murrin - everyone (including my wife, Julie) seems to like Clara more than I do.

I need to give Julie major props. she watches stuff like Doctor Who because I like it. and she understands the connection I feel to the show. I started watching it with my dad when the Boston PBS played the Tom Baker years.

my dad was not a huge science fiction fan, so it was odd he liked it. thought Leela might have something to do with his liking of the show. :)

and when Baker returned as the curator, it slayed me and she was way more understanding than many spouses would have been. Tennant is my our favorite, though Matt Smith certainly ranks right after Tennant and Tom Baker.

and Julie really likes Capaldi, she warmed up to him quicker than I did.

My husband watches cause of me, also. He's a real sport about it, and has been letting me give him a tour of classic Who over the past year or two. We're up to the Fifth Doctor. :)

Ms. Mary - who is his favorite so far?

Not sure. He seemed to enjoy Jon Pertwee quite a lot, though.

never did warm much up to Pertwee, I only saw him after Tom Baker, that may have something to do with it.

The next series of Doctor Who will be Moffat's last. It will not air until 2017, however, so we're still gonna have to put up with him for a while.

His replacement is... the guy who wrote "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship", which was awful, so... maybe the one after him will be good?

I have to admit, Chibnall's episodes were not my favorites. He did a fair number of Torchwood episodes, too, and was the show runner for Broadchurch.

I'm withholding judgment till I see what he does, for now.

It's my understanding that his work outside of the Whoniverse is well regarded.

Perhaps he just hasn't been able to please you under RTD or Moffat's vision of The Whoniverse and he'll surprise you when the sandbox is his to play in Full time? I actually like most of Chibnall's work on Doctor Who quite a bit.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, I actually liked the silly/comedic aspect of it

But he also did 42
The Silurian 2 Parter The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, which I guess I like more than many online fans
The Power of 3, which had some great aspects to it, it just had a rushed ending
The Magicians Apprentice, I loved almost all of this past Season, and from what I've seen posted and heard from speaking to people IRL, most folks who didn't hate this Season liked this episode, even if they didn't like the Second Part

Anyone watching the current season of Doctor Who? I think it's a pretty good batch of episodes, so far. And I love the new companion. Bill has a really good dynamic with the 12th Doctor.

I am watching - I have a season pass through iTunes, but I'm a couple of episodes behind already. Enjoying it so far.

I didn't watch last season, but I'm watching this one, and yeah....I love Bill. It seems funny to me that she is reacting more the way a regular human would react, and asking all the questions I would expect someone to ask instead of just, "oh, I get to go on a series of adventures in time? Cool!"
But that has slowed down a bit.

*spoilers regarding the season 10 finale ahead*
Spoiler
"Returned to the TARDIS by a departing Heather and Bill, he begins to regenerate in a sequence that plucks at our heartstrings and plays on our fondness for Doctor Who as a whole about as thoroughly as possible.

The Doctor's exhausted, determined to finally rest in peace, and has to be convinced to fight on. So, the TARDIS takes him back to the scene of his very first regeneration. The original, you might say. Everything comes full circle." ~digitalspy.com
Oh...
Spoiler
I've never seen Hartnell's regeneration in to Troughton, so I missed that. So, now I wonder if we'll see an actor portraying Troughton's Doctor at the end of the Chr-stmas special.

The New Dr Who [the 13th avatar] is.........

[drum roll]

...........
Spoiler
A Woman! Actress Jodi Whittaker in fact, and good luck to her. Their will be tears no doubt, but as a fan of the old [pre-reboot] series' I have no problem with this; it seems a natural progression to me and I bet that within short order the initial shock will dissipate and she'll just blend into the role as have all the other Doctors.

I don't think that is a surprise to anyone any more, given how publicly the announcement was made.

In case anyone was unaware, though, The Doctor has been a woman before.

I am eager to see where this goes, but story arc-wise, I am wishing they waited a regeneration or two. The Master was just Missy. Does it not seem odd two such renegade Time L-rd's would regenerate as women, one right after the other?

I think they were setting the stage for it with Master/Missy. Not sure how I feel. On the one hand, it's a drastic change. On the other hand, it's usually a drastic change. It's supposed to be. Helps keep things interesting. Actually had a long conversation about it last night with a WoW friend, and I was a little more on the fence until he pointed out, quite rightly, that two of my favorite characters from BSG were male in the original incarnation.

I think she has potential. I'm more worried about Steven Moffat leaving, but nothing I can do about that.
