Attempting to move the Lance Henrikson discussion over here where it belongs, I gotta say, he's too old for the part.

And, btw, not appropriate for a guttersnipe-turned-chiefofpolice.

Now, he would be an awesome choice for Holt Fasner IMO. He has creep factor.

Dios would be better served by Tommy Lee Jones or Kurt Russell or someone along those lines.

Edit: oh, Warden would also be an excellent candidate for a non-caucasian actor.

Heh. I'm more concerned about them being able to find a director who has actually read and enjoyed the series. Otherwise we're going to end up with something like Starship Troopers, where the director didn't even finish the book because it was too dark. (Or something like that. I don't remember the exact reason.)

(I admit that I liked Starship Troopers, but it didn't bear any resemblance to the book, and I will be furious if that happens to the Gap.)

The way I understand it, when FLP bought the movie rights, SRD's publisher got all the money. SRD just waves as it goes by.

Now, the publisher may ask SRD to help out as a deal sweetener, if FLP is looking for it. Or FLP may have no interest in working with SRD whatsoever - what with all his pesky resistence to having the plot changed. So the deal sweetener may be a promise to file a restraining order. But it's entirely up to what FLP is looking for. Again, I think SRD has little to say in the matter.

SRD has already written on why he is reticent to be involved in any movie made from his work. It's all downside from his point of view.

And, he had his high hopes shot down once before, very recently ....

So, I think if FLP is interested in SRD's input, and SRD is interested in giving some, I think that's pretty good, considering. I'm pretty sure we're not going to see SRD be a screenwriter.

i have always pictured Christopher Walken as the ideal Warden Dios. Dios is supposed to be coldly intimidating and Walken has that quality in spades.

now, Holt, on the other hand, is supposed to look younger than Dios, and due to the best technology and medicine can offer he looks "good" too, so i see a Kurt Russell type actor being a better fit for him. the creepy thing about Holt, imo, is that his outward appearance is in such contrast to his vile inner self; an aged horrid monster in disguise as a middle-aged, good-looking guy.

Heh. My first reaction was that she's a bit young, and doesn't match my mental image at all. Could work, not my first choice by any means.

Then again, considering his first choice way back when was Jeri Ryan, he's going in the right direction.

It wouldn't surprise me if the "limited basis" is SRD's idea. He said at the Manchester Q&A session I attended a couple of years back that film-making is such a different business from writing a book that he has no desire to be involved in the making of a film. Something along the lines of leaving the films to people whose business is making films.

I don't hate Kirsten Dunst, but she's way too "cutesy" for Morn.

Excuse me for butting in . . . newbie and all that (not as a Donaldson reader, circa 1981). I only read the last 3 pages of posts, so you'll excuse me if I repeat anyone. 30 pages? Pphsshh! Later.

Casting the GAP? Let's see . . .

Holt could be Patrick Stewart. That bald head could be any age, and whoever is cast must be able to stare down Warden.

Vector? Paul Giamatti.

Walken might work for Warden, but I see Dios as more . . . solid. That leaves out Henriksen too. Still can't come up with an appropriate choice, but I'm thinking along the lines of Charleton Heston for type.

Henriksen as Vestibule. That's a face that screams creepy, without Amnion makeup.

Milos Taverner is Steve Buscemi. You can disagree, but take another look at that face. Ok, he could play Vestibule instead, but not at Henriksen's expense.

Clive Owen (Children of Men) for Nick. Dark, handsome (my wife tells me) and broody. When things go bad for Nick, this is the actor I want.

Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as Angus. You want an actor with the chops to be brutal and still be able to root for him? Check. You want body-type match? Check. Plus, my brother-in-law (a grip in the business) works(ed) with him on The Shield.

Morn? It's hard to pick a gorgeous woman in Hollywood and mess her up. What's that you say? They like that? Put out a casting call!

Someone elsewhere mentioned Robin Williams as Hashi. Not sure if that would work appearance-wise, but Williams is right for the character.

I agree with whoever mentioned Forest Whitaker for Dolph. He could also play Vector.

Mikka and Sorus are interchangeable types (I didn't say characters!). Weaver and Jansen are good choices. I can see Sigourney shooting Nick and rallying her crew to blast Calm Horizons. She'd be happy too, because they couldn't raise her from the dead for sequels.

Ooh, good idea. I like Clive Owen in general, and he does brooding, confident and ruthless in Sin City.

I could see him better as Warden. I'm sure Patrick could play Holt but I can't picture it... maybe I'm used to him playing somewhat sympathetic characters (Picard, Xavier).

I picture Milos as a little, round-faced mousey guy (there's an actor's face I see but can't place the name). Think Jason Alexander as a real perverted little creep (oh, he already played that role?

I don't want Jason to play the part, but he has somewhat the look I'm thinking of. Or maybe an evil Phil Collins.

Clive Owen would be good.

So would Jason Isaacs. Same kind of persona. I hated him so much in The Patriot I couldn't even like him in the interviews on the DVD

He'd work, although he might be too over the top. Hashi seems much more... subtle. I always pictured Hashi looking like Doc from Back to the Future, although he's waaay too over the top.
