I'm guessing it should have been 'She Was Thine' and the second version has something to do with an accent. Am I close?Iolanthe wrote:
I know a joke about "E"
A man commissioned a gravestone for his wife. When he went to see the finished article he said to the stonemason that he had missed out the "E". The gravestone said "She Was Thin". The stonemason said he would correct it and when the man went back it said "E She was Thin".
Perhaps you have to come from the north of England to understand that one!
Yes, very, Sorus. Up north the sound like "ee" precedes lots of statements "ee by gum lad", or it did, something like the "arr" in "arr Jim lad" (Treasure Island), only that is more the south west of England, Cornwall/Devon. If you can see a clip from "Last of the Summer Wine" from the BBC you can listen to some very good Yorkshire accents. Probably some on U tube.
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."

"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
