I just read the four books of Daniel Keys Moran's Tales of the Continuing Time series.
Emerald Eyes
The Long Run
The Last Dancer
The A.I. War, Book One: The Big Boost

Tons of fun with genetically engineered (some even build from scratch) people, telepaths, AI, cyborgs, a unified world (Occupied America isn't too happy about it, either), sorta-extra-terrestrials... Really a ton of fun, with a very fleshed-out world and history.

Bernice Summerfield (Benny, to her friends) was a companion of the Seventh Doctor Who in the Virgin New Adventures series of books. When Virgin Press lost the rights to Doctor Who, they gave Benny her own series, since she was a popular character.

And also been listening to the Bernice Summerfield audio stories from Big Finish. Started with the single releases, currently on the box sets.

Fun stuff. :)
Still reading the Bernice Summerfield Virgin New Adventures. It's taking more time than I thought to get though the series. Almost caught up on all the Benny (as her friends call her) audio stories. But will probably re-listen once I finish with the Virgin New Adventure books. Then there are the Big Finish Benny books. I have the whole collection of everything that was in print at the time I ordered. Missing about 3 that can only be obtained used for seriously unreasonable prices.

Just finished two new novellas, The King's Justice and The Augur's Gambit by a little known writer based near Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is sometime known to wear a green stone on his head!

Need I say that they're both very good!

Just read The Girl With All The Gifts, by M.R. Carey. Something or other about the title and blurb caught my eye. When it went to $1.99 I got it. Turns out to be a zombie story. I had no idea going into it, but you learn it very early on, so not much of a spoiler. Despite being a huge Walking Dead fan, enjoyed WWZ, and saw DotD in the theater decades ago, I've never read a zombie story. It was fun, and an easy read. Interesting explanation for the ... zombie-ism.

SHWEEET.
[deadpan]Helps as a nice break to educational theories you're reading for your Masters. Oh, wait.[/deadpan]

I think I need to re-read it by January if possible.
Was -just- obsessing over how I want to synopsize it for a friend.

First time, or reread?

Always liked that one, though I think Snow Crash is still my favorite.

Lol. Nice, deer.

Reading Diaspora, by Greg Egan. Literally only a few pages in, since I haven't had time the last couple days. But those few pages are excellent! It describes how artificial minds are created by this specific technology. Very detailed.

I would have sworn it was the first time, but as I read I had terrible de ja vu many times, leading me to think it might not have been.

(This is a very unusual thing for me, I don't often forget reading a book, and if you'd asked I would have said the only one of his I'd read was Snow Crash which I really enjoyed.)

I quite enjoyed it. :D

Got the last Pratchett book yesterday, but the GF called dibs, so I'm reading Gemmel's Ghost King while I wait.

I don't know why I haven't read more Neal Stephenson - I've liked everything I have read by him. Multiple people have recommended Cryptonomicon to me, I think that'll be moving up on my list.

Well, onto The Shepherds Crown, the last ever Terry Pratchett book.

Hell of a beginning, but, I suppose, fitting in a sense...

I haven't read it yet. Not quite ready to live in a world where there are no unread Discworld books. :(

I know it's
Spoiler
essentially an epitaph
, and that's really not something I can handle right now.

That probably sounds silly to some folks, and that's okay.

I'm getting toward the end myself. Currently listening to Making Money - only five books after that. Should be done by the end of the year.
