Jaz, I just saw some of your pieces on your Facebook. Very nice. :)

Today, while he is still frustrating me in regards to not being focused on his Latin class work, I am taking some pride in Beorn once again. We received his exam results for the Cambridge IGCSEs he took at the end of last year. For those who understand the system, these are supposedly equivalent to UK GCSEs and are graded from A* to G with grades A to E being equivalent to O level grade A to E. Beorn took three "papers" as they're called, in Chemistry, Maths, and English. The program coordinators at Beorn's school claim receiving a B on a Cambridge exam is the equivalent of getting an A on a similar exam here in the states. All I really know is an A* is the top score, supposedly very difficult to get (Hyperception says it is similar to something called starred first in British examinations) and an E is passing. The E is just passing, although it allows you to continue in the program.

Cambridge has a recognition program called "Cambridge Scholars." In order to qualify, you must pass three papers in a single testing session (basically a two week period at the end of the year) with a grade of C or higher. No one at his school qualified last year, and all of the 9th graders weren't qualified, as they only took one IGCSE at the end of the year. So, we were holding our breath, hoping Beorn would get three Cs at least, as this society would look good on his future college applications.

Without further ado, here's how he did:

IGCSE Chemistry ~ B
IGCSE Maths ~ B
IGCSE English (including essays) ~ A*

...:faint:

I am so proud of him.

Ah crap. I think a sixteen year old girl has taken a shine to me. I hate it when this happens. :( Apparently talking to them like people rather than children endears me to them, and then I have to try and let them down gently. Damn it.

Maybe I should just be nasty to people.

Ok, so it's not a big woe as things go, but I could do without it.

Just had a tooth pulled and the local is about to wear off, OW, off to the drug store to pick up the meds and take a nap (preferably not while driving  ).

I'm probably going to get very sick. The people at my pharmacy are idiots-they know I'm allergic to Hydrocodone, so they called the dentist to double check on whether I should have Vicodine or Hydrocodone--I told then as long as it's not synthetic, i.e Hydrocodone, I'm okay with it, so Vicodine's OK? Yes! Then I get home and it's Hydrocodone and I have to take it because I'm in pain! :faint: I hate Walgreens with a passion, I really do-Tam is going to rip their heads off when she gets off work.

What, it's always fun to pop in occasionally. Anyway, we've got 2-ish hours until it'll reasonable to go get something to eat for dinner, and there's nothing to do at the hotel. (Suzu's refusing to go downtown because it's just started to rain and she HATES driving in cities. )

Poor Suzu.... Hmm, isn't there a movie theater across from the hotel?

If you're at the same place where we stayed in March, there's a United Artists Theatre across Colorado Blvd.

Alternately, you could go to the zoo, where they have new baby red pandas. (And the mama red panda is from Roanoke -- how's *that* for weird?)

Well for anybody who cares I'm still on the same meds and am OK, so far, if not a bit loppy-When I took Hydrocodone in '02 for my broken hand I got violently ill for 30 hrs straight-I doubt that had to do with and altitude change and following a fully loaded Port-a-Potty Truck to the mountains during a 2 hour traffic jam, but it may have been a factor. LOL

There was a meetup this past weekend with the other forum I go to (yes, I'm a two-timing bastard, but actually KW is the other woman). One of the fellers there works at the zoo, and I was able to pet a penguin and feed the rhino. I was surprised that feeding the rhino was the highlight for me. And no...that is not a euphemism for anything.
We did spot a couple members getting ready for a furry convention though. I jokingly said they must be furries, but yesterday I found out there really was a furry convention in Denver this last weekend. Creepy.

Too old to accept the advances of sixteen year olds. I'm not thirty yet, but close enough.

Another forum?? How *could* you?? We'll always love you best! ;) (The rhino feeding sounds pretty cool, euphemism or no...)

Today's been okay so far. We raised a bunch of cash for the local Legal Aid Society here at work, so management is allowing us to wear jeans today. Plus this afternoon we get an ice cream social -- yummy! The diet starts again tomorrow....
