So...was browsing at a charity shop the other day, when a book caught my eye. Never heard of it, or the author, but when a books title alludes to Homer, it's going to stand out to me.
It's called
The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie, and is book one of a trilogy called "The First Law."
Just started it, will see how it goes, and whether I'll look for the rest of them.
Should have the ones I'm waiting for delivered by the end of next week, hopefully this will keep me going until then.

The First Law is very highly regarded. Let us know if you agree. I have that first book, and will get to it eventually.

(R)EVOLUTION is just annoying. It's supposed to be all kinds of nano crap enhancing our brains and minds. And there's a small amount of that. But what it really is is an Illumaniti story. Actually The Phoenix Club. Initiation, betrayal, severe injury, survival, change identity... If you're into that, you're in luck. I'm not. Only almost half through, and I'm near quitting. It better pick up on the scifi stuff real soon.

Will do. Enjoying it so far. Maybe a few slightly cliched tropes, but well written and maybe from a bit of a different perspective. Some dark humour as well.

Well, I've finally gotten around to finishing my re-read of SRD's Daughter of Regals & Other Tales. Now, I'm plunging into a re-read of Reave the Just and Other Tales. After that, I think I'll finally go ahead and read The King's Justice for the first time.

The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold. Enjoying it so far, slow start, but then some really good backstory revelations. Risky and brave way to start a story, ask Erikson!

Avatar wrote:Just started The First Named by John Wylie. Book one of the Servant of Ark series. Looks a bit Earthsea-ish.
^ Back to this. ^ I abandoned it when I started the others, but still no delivery, so...
On the plus side, one of the apparently main characters has been killed a few chapters in, so maybe there is some promise...

Well, all those finished with no sign of my next delivery, so back to Jonathan Wylie and
The Centre of the Circle, book 2 of the Servants of Ark.
It's not that they're bad per se, it's just late 80's fantasy...far too much influenced by stuff like the Belgariad...

It has its moments.
