Ugh, I have some nasty bug. I kept me down all day yesterday for the most part. Up and moving around a bit today. These respiratory things really knock me for a loop when I get them. Blah!

Still feeling good, albeit with a slight buzz because of the white wine I've been drinking and it ain't dinner time yet. Man I love summer.

Maybe I should start working on an album too...or maybe the first song first.

I'm feeling shocked.

I actually saw someone in a cafe reading the Illearth War - I've never seen anyone in real life, that I don't know, read a book from the author I love!

I feel in a celebratory mood.

1. After four months out of work and darn few nibbles on the resumes (etc) I've sent out, I got an email today in response to a position I applied for last week. They sent me a questionnaire to gather more information. While it is only a small preliminary step, it's more interest than I've gotten back on any but perhaps one or two efforts in these months...so I'm celebrating what little I can.

2. This is my 500th post. New title. Woo. Hoo.

That's cool. Around the time that Runes came out, I saw a man on the bus reading it. That fairly stunned me. Then just a month or so ago, I saw someone with a copy of The Wounded Land. That's it. In 25+ years, since my own introduction to TCTC, I've only seen two random strangers reading the books. We Donaldson readers are a scattered lot.

Oh, and after my laptop died i decided to buy a notebook. It's small, it's blue and it's cool!

I wanted to go and let them know I am a fan too! But, I hesitated and then they left, and I felt somewhat remorseful that I didn't take my opportunity. Still, there is some satisfaction in seeing the book being read...

He was with someone else who was reading the paper - he was about 3/4 of the way through, so couldn't put it down.

First, StevieG, I love the new Edgetar. Edge's work still outdoes all others, IMO.

Second, the Seafesters (I think it was at Seafest, and not elohimfest in 2007?) had an interesting experience regarding running in to a random SRD fan. I was at services and missed it, so I'll let one of those who was there when it happened describe it. I think ali was the one who posted about it in the appropriate 'fest thread.

Third, SD, good luck and good vibes being sent your way. Congrats on post 500; you're now half way to being inducted in to the Mile High Club.

Fourth, let us know how you like the notebook over time, Sea! Father-of-Love is thinking of getting Beorn one for his birthday...

It was at Seafest in Denver, summer of '08. A bunch of us were sitting at tables outside a bagel place, trying to wrap our brains around the fact that it was morning. I was wearing my KW "100% Unbeliever" shirt. And this guy comes out of the restaurant (he'd been sitting inside with his wife) and said that he'd spotted my shirt and wanted to tell me that he knew what it meant. And we welcomed him as a brother. Turns out he'd signed up at the Watch years before but hadn't posted much. Of course several of us posted about it in the Seafest thread, but it looks like CovJr was the first out of the gate. I am reeeeeally sleepy right now. Got involved in knitting last night and didn't get to bed 'til 2am. Knitting! Jeebus, I've *got* to get a life...

Regarding random SRD readers, I was too chicken myself on those occasions to talk to them. Now isn't that Covenantesque? The desire to talk to another human being, undermined by the fear of doing so.

Equally excellent! However, I've never been a laptop user. Considering how many times I've heard about laptops dying on Watchers, I'm not exactly encouraged to start owning one...

I will do, Menolly. At the moment it's great. A few things that I find slightly annoying (eg: there are several applications I use which sometimes just won't work using Firefox) but I'm sure that's something I'll sort out in time. Other than that, so far I'm impressed.

What is it with this knitting thing. My mother has recently gone knitting mad. She's been knitting scarfs. I think she's up to scarf #8 this winter!!

Well, yes. I've had no end of bad luck recently with computers. But I like to have a laptop that I can use in the house (my desktop is out the back in the bungalow and at nights I can't go out there because I need to be able to hear SoS). And I thought it would be nice to have something I could take with me on days when it's nice and sunny here so I could write on it anywhere and everywhere. It's only a 10" one so it's ultra portable. But, the most important thing: it's NOT a Dell! Time will tell, I guess. But it has a two year warranty so at least I'm covered for a while.

i feel like i been livin with a freakin smart-mouthed, know-it-all elohim for the last 22 years and i feel like i wish he'd just move the hell to jaPAN or something and write me postcards in japanese so i wouldn't have to READ them i could just look at them and think "gee, isn't that PRETTY!"
