I read NEUROMANCER. Melissa Scott built on the ideas, improved on them in general, imo.

I haven't read Neromancer, but have been told it is one of Gibson's best. I've never read anything by Melissa Scott. Guess I'll add her to my neverending to-read list!

Almost done with "Gardens of the Moon" by Steven Erikson, such a brilliant book. Can't wait to get into "Deadhouse Gates"

I'm waiting to read Erikson until I have easy access to him, but will without doubt do so. I have also been talked into reading Zindell, so Danlo, you can stop reminding me.
Not reading today at all, because I'm too tired to write. Hopefully by tomorrow or the next day I will finish a draft and can safely engage my mind on another project.
HOORAY FOR VACATION!!!

Went to B&N yesterday. I bought
Jack the Bodiless, the first book of Julian May's
The Galactic Milieu Trilogy. I also bought
The Reality Dysfunction (Actually, the two books it has been divided into,
Emergence and
Expansion), the first book of Peter Hamilton's
Night's Dawn Trilogy. Both trilogies have been recommended by at least two Watchers, so I'll give 'em a go. May's first, since hers was recommended first.
Unfortunately, my Chronic Fatigue just hit me like never before, so we'll see how long it is before I read any damned thing!!!!

Fist, so nice to know I was as persuasive about May as you were about Zindell.

JACK THE BODILESS is a delight. I've never known anyone who read that trilogy without reading the books she wrote before it, so let me know how it goes, ok?

I'm 50 pages into the Dragonbone Chair--pretty engaging, fun so far. I was a little freaked by all the religious sounding stuff at first but I can get past that. I may stop if I run into a copy of Five-Twelfths of Heaven but for now I'm off and running in Osten Ard.

Truly the best space opera EVER!

Emergence and Expansion, eh? I'd rather have the 1200 page single volume, actually (and I do).
I'm anjoying The Neutronium Alchemist. It actually took me quite a while to notice we were seeing nothing but Norfolk, Valisk, New California, and Ombey for the first couple of hundred pages.

It isn't the easiest read in the world, so much to keep up with, but its very interesting, a mix of so many genre thrown in wiht the epic science fiction space opera style. Brilliant.

Stick with Dragonbone chair Danlo - you will be happy you did. There are a lot of religious undertones, but some fine writing & a lot of intrigue...
I just finished reading Sean Russell's book 2 of the Swans War trilogy, Isle of Battle. This is a fine fantasy series, with much sorcery & some good old fashioned battles & chases. Plus the back cover of the books have a glowing review by one SRD and the 2nd book is actually dedicated to Donaldson.

So would I. But I don't think it's an option any longer. And if it is, it's too late now.

When I finish this semester at uni, I'll start reading fiction again. I can finish the great yawn-quest, the Night Land. Oh the joy.
"Then I stopped to rest in the dark at the boulder and opened up my food packet. This is a good thing, as you shall agree. And I slapped the maid, who was mine own, as should be done because she is a naughty maid . . . then I walked to the fire pit . . . then I slapped the maid . . ."ad nauseum.

I was cleaniong up my shelves last night and saw a copy of Earthsea/Startide Rising by David Brin. Was this one worth reading?

Just started on Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson, having just finished Gardens of the Moon, can't wait to get into this one. It's one of the best series I've ever read. An amazing read, for anyone who hasn't.

The first stuff I read from May was the Galatic Mileu. Didn't she co-Author the Black Trillium books with Andre Norton and another Author?
