Weird...what's LIGERS? Today fared much better, I awoke with much less pain from the nerve and had the front brakes done (while I was waiting I finally finished Ilium-it took me 4 months) not too costly, only 170 bucks. Then I switched out the livingroom DSR with the office TV-it's smaller but at least we can record shows and movies. Might contact one of these "rent-a-centers" until we can afford a new one. I hear KMart as a layaway plan (but do they sell decent TVs?)...

A liger is a cross breed of lion and tiger. Yes, my cable guy was telling me about the hormonal properties of lion sperm. Can you say "TWILIGHT ZONE????"

- thanks!)
In all threads, danlo, in all threads.
I would be careful, her new avatar looks a lot more menacing than the hot surfer chick did.

Yikes! Ligers!
I'm having a crafty weekend. This morning, I finished knitting a sweater that I've been working on for awhile. Then I started *two* new projects -- refinishing the thrift-shop coffee table I'm using as a TV stand, and putting together, at long last, the Seafest Denver scrapbook. Aaaand of course, it looks like Ritz didn't print the pictures of Carla with the knife. So I won't be able to finish the scrapbook this weekend because I'm going to print them at work to make sure they actually get printed this time. Grr.
The coffee table is *really* beat up, so instead of trying to strip/stain/varnish, I'm giving it a paint job. I sanded it and put on two coats of the base color (flat paint, terracotta color, left over from another project) today; then I used some metallic bronze acrylic to sort of highlight the table edges. Next I'm gonna thin some black paint (which I bought a sample of at Home Depot earlier today -- should be just enough to finish this project) and try a wash effect over the terracotta. Once that's done, I'm going to stencil a design (extremely uncomplicated) in the center of the tabletop with the acrylic paint. And *then* I'm going to varnish the whole thing. It will either be really cool or really junky looking when it's done. But at least the cigarette burns, etc., will be covered...

I am so non-crafty, that the sound of the whole coffee table project fascinates me, ali. Could you take photos at each step and upload them to Facebook? I would love to follow along step-by-step.

Woke up with a horrible dream and it kept me awake for hours and I finally went back to sleep and dreamed an even more horrible dream. When the hell did my friend Julie become the voice of my evil subconscious?

I feel your pain Warmark.
Me too this morning - it was a good feeling knowing we won 2-0 though.
Did you go to the game? It was a fantastic atmosphere.

I saw this too late, sorry. I've already got all the painting done.
I did have some qualms about halfway through putting on the "wash" paint. For a minute there, I thought I was going to end up with a mud-colored table. But then I put on a second coat of "wash" paint and it looked much better.
I'll put up a shot in the album when it's done, which should be tomorrow afternoon, as all that's left is the varnish. With the humidity so low, I'm sure I can do two coats in one day. Yay! Ten years I've had this table and it's looked like a piece of beat-up crapola the whole time. It'll be nice to have it looking decent.

If I didn't have to deal with them tomorrow yes I'd be posting "hungover" tomorrow but hangovers and my parents...it's just NOT worth going there!

I'm annoyed. I got the first coat of varnish on the table and went in to do some other stuff. Glanced out the window and saw that it was *raining*! How the heck is the varnish supposed to dry if it's raining, I ask you? Bah. Stupid weather guys, telling me on Friday that it's going to be clear and dry all weekend!

Had to bring the table in off the balcony and shut all the windows and fire up the a/c. Now the sun is out, so maybe I can get the table back out there and put on the second coat before it gets dark. If I have to bring it in overnight, so be it.
It looks pretty good so far, tho I dunno if anyone will like it but me. But hey, I don't have to please anybody else, do I?

Thanks!

I just uploaded a couple of those pics in the KW album, too. And like an idiot, I put one of them in the Laborium -- would one of the admins be so kind as to move it to the "random stuff" category? Thanks....

I am nervous. I have to read out loud to my third-graders tomorrow, and out-loud reading is not one of my strong points. I'm sure it will be fine, but I'm still nervous.
