Yeah, she's still sleeping.
Whew, the house smells so musty from all the water still in the walls and between the floors. An overbearing wet redwood and cedar smell.

Time to break out the microwave? A little carbon odor might help counter it.

Y'know I was pondering what could have caused the fire. Microwave experiments? Dunno. Trust me though there's plenty of carbon smell going around right now. There are heaping piles of burned house out front, and the water that is in the walls and between the floors is a sort of burned house broth.

Now I am at work. Yeah, the house stinks like burnt yuck. The front room is so stinky my eyes were watering when I got dressed. I think I can still smell a bit of eau de burnstink on my clothing. Ugh. However, I do want to say, Thank You powers that be for not making it any worse than it was. We are safe with minimal damage and a lingering stink. I am happy to live with that all things considered.

You both are fine, and that's the main point.

Well, I am back home right now after getting a phonecall from BGB telling me that the house next door was still on fire and the firemen had to come back. They cut holes in the kitchen ceiling of the apartment upstairs from us. The house smells worse than ever and the place next door is just decimated. Horrible Horrible Horrible. I just want to cry.

Oh man, sorry, Jenn and BGB. Here's hoping the fire is totally out now.

Hey Wayfriend -- how do I get an LA lapel pin?

I just got finished cleaning up a bunch of glass and charred wood chunks from the sun porch. They knocked the windows out of the upstairs apartment into our sun porch. It was nasty. Bloodguard Bob cleaned all the stinky smoke water up from the kitchen. I still need to hose down all the ash residue from the sun porch. All I keep thinking is how freaking lucky we are compared to the people in the other two buildings. Thanks everyone for the hugs. I sure do need them today.

This is from inside the apartment next door to BGB and I. This is their ceiling and the brown wood in the background is the wall of our building.
This is the upper edge of our sun porch.
This is the view of the other side of the sunporch, the view from inside the apartment next door.

Wow, that's terrible. Jenn, glad both you and Bloodguard Bob are ok. I didn't read all of the other (How do you feel) thread, but it sounded like it was just property damage for your neighbors as well, correct? Not that property damage is anything to make light of, but it could have been worse. Glad you guys are alright.

Well, the people in the apartment where the fire started lost most of their stuff plus their cats although it looks like two of the three cats may have been spotted in the neighborhood. They haven't been caught though as they are totally freaked out fire escapee indoor kitties. Poor babies. The people right next door lost most of their stuff too and some of them are living at red cross. So yeah, it's just stuff but also they lost the roofs over their heads for a few months.

How are Moose and Bird doing Jenn? Any unusual behavior due to the stress or smell or anything?

Jenn,

I'm glad you two are alright.
I can't even imagine it.
Wait, I can a little.
Remember my potato in the microwave post?
My apartment was just like yours, except for the charred wood......broken glass.....water damage.....hole in the roof.....but other than that I know what you're going through!
I wish I could help you.
