Dunno about "the right cat." But cats certainly find me. (Are there wrong cats?)

This thread truly has it all. Even precognition.

Out of curiosity, whatever happened to Darth Vader?

Do you mean Vader? He posted in the Galley not too long ago.

There are no wrong cats. If a cat found you, the cat knew it was a good match. Cats are seldom wrong about such things.

A couple of years ago, I fell in love with a cat that I saw on the webcam at my local shelter. Totally felt like it was meant to be. Went to meet the cat, the cat was completely uninterested in me. Didn't have the sort of personality I was looking for at all.

I've never been given the choice. :D Mine have always just turned up. I wouldn't have pets at all if it was up to me, but they don't seem to get the message. :D

Most of the time mine were intentional - going to shelters and whatnot. I've lived with four cats for most of my life, and anything less than that just feels wrong. A couple of years ago when I lost one of my older ferals to lymphoma I thought I'd be okay with three for a while - I mean, a cat for each hand and one underfoot should be enough, right? But no, it just felt wrong. And a few months later one of the top matchmakers at the shelter came up to me and said, 'You've got to meet this cat.' So I met the cat, and we liked one another, but it wasn't known if she liked other cats, so I hesitated. I visited her every day for a week, telling myself that if she was still there on Friday I would adopt her. I was shocked when she was, because she was so friendly and pretty. Later I found out that she was extremely shy with most people - I think she knew from day one that she'd be coming home with me.

Damn cats. :D I've always loved them, just never wanted the responsibility. :D

Today was an interesting day. I brought Leslie Dent's car with me to work for a rough idle and check engine light. On my lunch break I borrowed a scan tool from Shawn, pulled the codes, hunted down the vacuum leak, fixed the leak and cleared the codes by myself. Also, since the Miata has been stored at the shop until the top gets back on, Mike, my painter/race car driver has been pulling it in and out in the mornings and the evenings. He keeps telling me he bets the Miata is a really fun car to drive. He races a turbo firebird and a turbo el camino, the kind that the front end lifts several feet into the air during takeoff. I figure that is a great compliment and high endorsement. Then tonight while finishing a late day estimate I go back to my desk and look up only to see my Miata, driven by Mike go ripping past my window through the parking lot at high speed. I start laughing and later as we are leaving I say to Mike, "So? How did you like your ride?" He looks all fake guilty and says, "I don't know what you are talking about." and I say, "Really? So that wasn't you, hair pulled back in the wind ripping by my office window in my car?" He laughed and said, "That is a REALLY fun car to drive but I swear I didn't take it too far." I laughed and said, "I trust you." He said he wouldn't mind taking it up the crazy mountain road to the Crest Point and I told him he could if he wanted to. He said he might take me up on that. So there you have it folks, my Miata has officially been endorsed by a well respected, well known Southwest race car driver. YEAH BABY!!!

In answer to the vader as in Jeep Vader question, yes I still have him. Leslie will be driving him a few weeks from now when my mom visits. I've had some great cats over the years. Most have chosen me.

So, Mom visit.... I get a voicemail that says she's made her reservation so I can't say no, I get dates etc and expectations and I freak out. I am fine now. I got it all worked out so it will be good. Just not sure how well Mom will sleep with both Moose and I snoring away since Rigel is occupying my guest room. :D

There will also be a bit of musical cars. My Mom will be driving Danlo's wife's car, she will be driving Jeep Vader, and I will be rocking the Miata. Don't know how Lady Tam does it but she gets in and out of Jeep Vader like a monkey and she's two inches shorter than me. The damn tires come up to the middle of her ribcage and she has to stand on her toes to grab the pull up handle. She's amazing.

Glad to hear Vader is still around Jenn. I got concerned when you mentioned that you drive a white car. Recently my wife and I bought a 2002 F350 diesel 4x4 sitting on 36" or 37" tires (not sure which) for a farm truck. She is so looking forward to driving it once it gets out of the shop. But I'm afraid her road rage may prompt her to go all Bigfoot on somebody in a Prius.

I have a Miata that's white in addition to my Jeep. She's been modified and is track legal for drift racing with roll cage, four point racing safety harnesses and all the carpet taken out, she also has a hard top but I took it off for the summer. She is retired from racing now.

If your wife goes all psycho and drives over a prius, make sure to get pictures...

That sounds like it would be a lot of fun to drive, not that I know anything about driving.

(I did have one former manager ask me to stop referring to the forklift as a siege vehicle.)

That's awesome Sorus! So my co-worker Richard owns a house and his sister lives with him, she has the master bedroom and is supposed to be paying rent etc. She can't hold a job because she keeps getting fired for no shows and isn't getting the full concept. Recently she moved her girlfriend in with her without getting Richard's concent. Needless to say, he's a bit pissed off. Over the last few weeks I got to hear about the girlfriend's Old Spice body wash and how she smells like a lumberjack. Then I was shown a picture and the girl looks just like Justin Beiber only masculine. In all of this time I had never been told her name, I had been referring to her in my conversations with Richard as, "Beibs the Lumberjack." Today I said to Richard as he bitched to/confided in me once again, that he should probably tell me her real name so I could quit calling her Beibs. He hesitated, looked down an the ground and then said to me, "It's Jennifer, her name is Jennifer." I said, "Alrighty then, Beibs it is.." We had a good laugh. I probably just spelled Beiber wrong but I can't be fussed to bother to check.

Last night at the end of the day at work I come to find out that Mike went joyriding in my Miata, hard driving... with passengers... my coworkers... 8O  They all seem to suddenly have a huge respect for the Miata and think she's very badass. Several expressions come to mind but I think the most fitting is "Neener Neener Neener" :P I really like my co-workers so I think "In your face bitches" is a bit harsh.

I watched my Miata go ripping out of the parking lot AGAIN today. Mike at the wheel and Kevin ridding shotgun. They got back and Mike was telling me he can't believe how much he loves driving my car and how much Kevin loves riding shotgun on the joyrides. He claims he's addicted to my car and now he knows what he wants for Christmas.
