LSU prevailed over Washington 31-23.

Considering that the Huskies are winless since November of 2007, this was a better performance than expected from them (line was LSU by 17), but still this goes in the books as a win for SEC and a loss for Pac 10.

Yes, the Huskies won none last year, but they played a very respectable game against the Tigers this evening. They did lose, but by far less than expected. Next week, I look for them to easily beat Idaho, then carry their renewed confidence to wins against USC and Stanford in coming weeks.

(Oh, yes, I'm supposed to be discussing SEC teams in this thread. Excuse me...)

By contrast, the Gators opponent did not even merit being called a pushover. I did not see the game, but the score gives the impression that Charleston Southern never rose far enough to need to be pushed over.

Which is why I wait to read the details, other than going by score alone.

heheheh...

I do hope the Gators played to deserve that score.

I can't say much about playing weak opponents in the opening game. TN beat Western Kentucky 63-7.

When I first saw the schedule and that W Kentucky had TN for week one, I could not believe that W KY scheduled such a weak opponent to open the season, either.

As for LSU...it was hard to tell if LSU is just not as good as expected or if Washington is that much better than expected. After a couple of more weeks, that question should answer itself in both regards.

A win is a win...and I would take a win on the road against a BCS conference school any day to open the season.

So (as a recap) Bama won, GA lost in big matchups...and Florida couldn't even cover the spread against the little sisters of the poor.

LSU takes care of Vandy...

TN can't find a way to beat UCLA

And Florida and Alabama yet again beat a quality opponent into the turf at home.

Auburn has the top 2 rushers in the SEC and one more little stat.........#1 in rushing yards out of the entire freaking NCAA! War Eagle!

For the record:
Ryan Mallet, Arkansas: 210.25 passer rating. Best in nation.

Tim Tebow, Florida: 197.95 passer rating. Second best in nation.

Total offense:
1. Florida
2. Texas A&M (Big 12)
3. Arkansas
4. Auburn

The SEC is packing some offensive heat this year!

You don't have a thing to worry about. We're stuck with the worst quarterback we've had since Darryl Dickey. We don't have the athletes to match up with you (except for Eric Berry.)

Thanks dlb.
It wasn't the blowout others were predicting, which may affect our ranking. But, a conference win is a conference win.
I'll take it.

On to Kentucky...

...and reports coming out of Gator Nation Central (my own nickname for the UAA) causes the Gator Nation to all expel their collectively held breath in tentative relief.

So the question is if Tebow wil be back and able to play against LSU in a couple of weeks ni Baton Rouge.

Personally, I want him to play. It will make the ass whoopin' that we put down on the Gators that much sweeter and leave no room for excuses from the Gator nation.

I think we all want him to play.
But only if the concussion is low grade and it is safe for him to do so.
My understanding is pushing the recuperation from a concussion could be deadly...
