Hi Timewarden67; Some simple maths tells me you and I are probably of similarish ages and came to the Chrons pretty much together in our teens [unless you are considerably older, but came to the Chrons at a later age]. If the former is the case in all likelyhood we had similar 'perspectives' on the works as they appeared. I read the first Chrons in pretty much one sitting and then hungrily snapped up the second book by book as they appeared. I remember being devastated on sitting down to read The Wounded Land at what had become of the Land in the two or so years since I had read the first Chrons.

God how I loved those books! Welcome on board :).

Welcome to the Watch, TimeWarden67!

Don't be shy here, join in ongoing threads, resuscitate old ones, start new ones. And when you've had your fill of SRD-related material check out the other stuff we do really well here: General Sci-fi and Fantasy, writing and literature, philosophy and spirituality in The Close, politics and current affairs in the 'Tank, fun and games in Mallory's, Science and Technology in the Loresraat, as well as sports, cooking, music, role-playing, comics and so on.

This is a really great place to come and talk about SRD's work and an even better place to stay and get to know the excellent people that it has drawn together.

Be Welcome and True!

u.

It is a really cool forum. Go join in everywhere. There's more to talk about than just SRD, although there's plenty of that too.

Look forward to seeing you around. :D

I found this place through a result on a search I made on Google about an obscure topic.

I'm from Brazil, and there are not much people here to talk about science fiction and fantasy.

My avatar comes from my interest on IBM computers. I own a T60 ThinkPad laptop, which I'm modifying with parts from other ones that are more or less compatible. In the end, the computer will be anachronistic, having parts from several models. The avatar I use expresses this well: it is the old globe IBM logo discarded in 1947, colored with the colors that IBM used in their laptops that had colored, instead of monochromatic, displays.

My interest on IBM came from reading old science fiction books, and from seeing IBM computers in some local banks when I was young. Now I can afford an IBM computer, ooooh! Those who know the story of the ThinkPad line could be chucking now, but that story is compatible with my state of mind. Yes, I do know this is a Lenovo unit.

Welcome to the Watch, packshaud!

For what it is worth, I am responding from a ThinkPad T430...

What obscure topic led you here? Something to do with SRD? While that is the flywheel that keeps the Watch ticking, we are about so much more than that. Look around and post where you will.

May you thrive here...and contribute.

Welcome to the Watch, packshaud.

I worked at IBM for a few years back in the mid eighties. I remember the 4-color 3270 displays with the cast iron keyboards. I worked in Boca Raton, FL. It was an interesting place at an interesting time. They invented something in Boca that was just emerging on the market. They called it the "PC". No one respected it much. Series 1 was the hot stuff.

So, having given you my bonafides ... talk Donaldson!
