Not intentionally...perhaps excessively cautious. After six months of being "between engagements" (now that's a silly euphemism!), I have a bias to not consider the fish caught until it has been hooked, netted, gutted, filleted and pan-fried with lemon, garlic and capers.

Agreed. I've had people tell me at interview that they want me to start next week and they'll call me to give me my shifts, only to never call me, and then tell me on enquiry that I didn't get the job. Over-cautious is wise. *sigh*

Anyway, he's probably got it. Tentative congratulations.

Same thing has happened to me too, CJr and to others that I know.

Well, that's now three full consecutive days of voicemail fun. I obviously haven't left messages every time, just the first time. I even called from a different phone in case it was mine playing up (it wouldn't be the first time). It seems her phone is just switched off all the time. Talk about inconvenient timing. Well, there's nothing else I can do.

apparently you're not alone as it (the phrase hugs and shit) has become our guild leader's favorite thing to exclaim while he's in vent giving us hell for whatever reason! (i'd once written an ingame note to him and signed it "hugs and shit" which he thought was hilarious - who knew?!)

I've had better days.

Driving in to work today, I pull up to a stop sign. The car comes to a jerking halt and I can smell something burning. The car is drivable so I take it to the dealer, where I usually take it. I figure brakes, since I've felt a slight grind to them the last few days. They look at it and I was right, it was the brakes. It was also the distributor bearing running hot. That accounted for the burning smell. $300 for the brakes and for fixing the bearing, $1,700, with that taking up to a week, since they have to get the parts out of Milwaukee. Well, I've got to go out of town tomorrow for business so I won't be back till Thursday night. I tell them I'll think about it and, I rent a car in town at $45 a day.

It's a bite, but I figure it's time to look for a car. I've got 155,000 miles on this one and am three payments from being done, but the repair and all will be equal to about six months of payments when it's said and done. I'd take a day off to look for a car, but I won't be able to take a day until next Tuesday; we're moving out of our office next Monday, so I'm packing today and Friday. That leaves Saturday, a crappy day for car shopping.

Arrgh.

Damelon: Sorry to hear about your car troubles. Don't it just figure that the car would wear out *just* before the payments are up...

The car problems must be catching.

I had my car in today for an oil change and had him look for any leaks because I'm going through coolant like crazy.

He replaced the radiator cap and told me that if the problem continues and it's more than just the radiator cap, that means it's my head gasket. =/ I drive a 1986 Mercedes so a part like that would run me $800-900. The car is a beast and I'm told it'll run forever. I'm at about 202k miles. I've replaced both ball joints in the front of the car and the thermostat, but that's the only trouble its given me.

I have to wait for Spring in order to get a loan on a car because I'm starting out in the credit world and none of my family members know how to spend responsibly and so can't co-sign on a loan for me. So yeah.....tensions are high.

On a positive note, it was nice and rainy today. I love Autumn, I feel truly like myself in this season.

More seriously, I've never driven: I've promised myself (in half-baked fashion) that the first car I own must be completely non-polluting (whether electric or whatever) or else I won't have one at all. If I stick to my promise, it's possible I may never drive in my lifetime, given the glacial pace at which society is adopting alternative fuel sources (except maybe in Germany and California).

Oh, and count me as another supporter of a Cov/Cag weekly show. It would be the most inspired thing to come out of KW since the Elohimfest idea. However, I'd advise the two of them against hosting their show in bed, a la Julie and Heatherly in Fantasy Bedtime Hour. It could be awkward - for the viewer, and most decidedly for Cov and Cag.

Really, you've never driven? That's impressive!

How old are you (if that's not rude...if it is, I apologize)? You must live in a place that has some nice public transportation. I know I lived in the UK for a year or so and never had to drive or even worry about getting a car, as the public transportation was affordable and everywhere.

Here, I work 20 miles away from where I live. =/
