I am unsure.

I think if you don't write anything in the message when you donate, they are sent anonymously. At least, that has happened with me on occasion.

Perhaps it's random.
Or, perhaps the donor goes into Sent PM's and deletes the notification before the receiver opens it?

I do know I have received donations in the past, but have never received notification of where they were from.
