Hell yes! If you're gonna drop that kind of money, I want an engagement saddle and an engagement jumping vest and an engagement manure spreader. :lol:

so, what ever happened to the days when a fellow would say, "hey, bob. marry my girl and i'll give you this bucket of cash, five goats, a mare, and trade connections with my cousins across the sea. she also comes with her own hand maidens, two of wich are real lookers i might add, a cook, a nanny, a coach and driver and cottage.
on top of all that, take this diamond ring, too."?

I don't care how much a guy spends on me. My last engagement ring was definitely not pricey. But whatever, I like that particular ring, and it has nothing to do with cost.

And y'all can be all "oh, I'm obviously more reasonable than the average girl, I want tools and stuff that make me seem cooler to guys" but I'll take my whimsy, Thank You Very Much.

ha! got sombody riled up.
i don't want all that mess either, but i do think that the rock isn't really for the bride to be it's for her friends and family to "Oooh!" over. if it's for the bride then put into a bond, honeymoon, 25th wedding annaversary, or a fat vacation every year from the kids.

Haha, you'll know when I'm riled up (which I'm not right now... so... I suppose that's not an accurate statement on my behalf, sorry.)

My ring was for me. It was custom designed and not flashy and the diamond was tiny by today's standards. But at the time it was perfect and just what I wanted. Of course I showed it off, but that's just because I was proud of it. It was our creation. So maybe your opinion is based off your experiences, but that's all anecdotal anyway.

Engagement rings are symbols, and we're all here because of a book who's author deems symbols to be very, very important. I happen to agree with him.

:::whispering:::

Something similar is still done in the extremely observant Jewish community, although at least now a days the future couple does tend to have the final say...
