Deep Purple gave us "the riff", BOC and JP are clear omissions...maybe Rush too... but as to the rest of your list, feh.

Van Halen especially was kind of liteweight in a creative sense. Eddies guitar style was gimmicky and none of 'em could write a song that was worth more than the vinyl it was printed on. Iron maiden...yawn.

King Crimson is among the most influential bands in the world that no one has heard of. Listen to how much Pink Floyd and Yes changed after ITCOTCK. Hell, they are still acting muse to bands like The Mars Volta, Muse, and Dream Theater.

And their still making viable, vital progressive rock. Anyone else pick up Thrack? It might be my favorite KC almbum that isnt ITCOTCK. (yes, even better than Red)

And don't you dare disrespect Iron Maiden. It's so easy to lump them up with all the other super shitty metal bands from the 80s who wrote nothing but shitty power balleds, but IM ROCKS. I don't see how anyone can listen to Number of the Beast and not bang their head (at least a little).

Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden.....Yeah, there's a bunch that belong in.

But it seems like it's become "hey, remember these guys?".

Pretty soon some of those guys will have to be let in as the candidate pool dries up.

Save for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Everclear, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Weezer and some others...there just aren't that many Rockers given airplay to become superstars.

2016 inductees:

Journey (it's about damn time!)
Yes (also long overdue, although I'm not a fan personally)
ELO (I know nothing about this band)
Pearl Jam (This was a sure-fire inductee this year.)
Tupac Shakur (Another sure-fire inductee)
Joan Baez (Surprised she wasn't already in, although I don't see the logic behind this vote at all.)

I wasn't a fan...but I went and saw them in concert while in Germany [[early 80's]]
They opened the show with a little robot delivering the opening from "Time" album. Danced around with it, too. Dorky, but kinda fun anyway. Kinda like the guitar player...
And speaking of guitar players...
Yes' Rabin---I just found out cuz of this that he's done a BUNCH of film scores...and I've even SEEN a number of them and didn't know that he'd done the music.

I went to YouTube and now I realize that I've heard everything above except "Telephone Line" and "Strange Magic." Never knew any of those other songs were by ELO. Still not my thing, but at least I now know something about the band.
