I personally liked Oceans 1-10 better than 11 or 12.

Yup, definitely overrated. So are both Pirates of the Caribbean movies.A Gunslinger wrote:Insert early winter released period piece here. One that comes to mind quickly:

Thank (I think) Mirimax for politicking the Academy with faxes and gifts. Another period piece whose release is timed for special Oscar effect. Yawn.dlbpharmd wrote:Yup, definitely overrated. Here's another: Shakespeare in Love. I actually do like this movie, but there's NO WAY IN HELL it should have won Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan.
No comment.dlbpharmd wrote:I wish that I hadn't watched The English Patient.
Couldn't agree more on both. People rave about both, and I thought they were both dreck. LiT pissed me off because that was a mainstream hit, DD pissed me off because it's a cult hit, and the fanboys insist that if you don't like it, you must be too dense to get it. I get it, it's just not good.CovenantJr wrote:Donnie Darko. Lauded beyond belief, yet still a bit rubbish.
Lost In Translation. Honestly one of the worst 'recommended' films I've seen (I've seen far worse films that everypne agreed were terrible). Dreadful bit of tat. Yuck.
Stopped watching DD after about 20 minutes, couldn't stand it. I forced myself to watch all of Lost in Translation only because of Scarlett Johanssen, but in hindsight I wish I had those 2 hours of my life back.Cail wrote:Couldn't agree more on both. Yes, exactly. Well, I never saw DD, but LiT was same way for me.dlbpharmd wrote:Stopped watching DD after about 20 minutes, couldn't stand it. I think most people hated that movie, though, so I dunno if it's really overratedLord Mhoram wrote:"I <3 Huckabees" blows so badly. I hated that movie. Add that to the list of crappy cult, "deep" films.
I liked LiT. It wasn't a side-splitting laugher, but it wasn't meant to be, it was a lot more subtle than that and I found myself smiling at the culture clashes in the movie.Holsety wrote:Yes, exactly. As far as cult hits, I've never actually gone and seen the Rocky Horror Show. I've always assumed it's overrated among its most dedicated fans, but I still plan on seeing it sometime. Just too lazy to go to a showing.
Completely agree. I thought Shakespeare in Love was a very good movie (though I think it would have been a lot better if Paltrow had concentrated more on acting than on flashing her titties at the camera every twenty minutes) - but Saving Private Ryan is a truly great and landmark film.dlbpharmd wrote:Yup, definitely overrated.
