I could contribute to Cov's trip by letting him stay in my cabin.... :D Sorry, couldn't resist the opportunity to make you blush, CovJr.

Sounds like a plan to me, Jenn. :)

You might be surprised at the things that don't make me blush.

What kind of Southern dialect is that?! The correct response should have been "ye-us."

I'll come...um...errr....

Why can't you all just come live in Australia...that'd be helpful for ME!

Dangit Sea, I wish we were all independently wealthy. Then we could all just jet around whenever we wanted. Although, I am sure that if you got the flight money there would be more than enough watcherboys willing to help you with accomodations....

Cave City is quaint, and Guntown Mountain is unique... but the tourist-trap row just isn't the same since they closed down Golgotha, the world's only Shaded Biblical MiniGolf Course and GoKart Track.

There are several different tours at Mammoth Caves, from the everyone-can-go intro tour to scheduled-only professional spelunking. My favorite was the Lantern Tour. The camping is good, though I've never truly "roughed it" there.

The Wild Cave tour must be booked weeks (months?) in advance, but it is WELL worth it. I did it decades ago when I was about 20 pounds lighter, but even then it was a very tight squeeze. There was a guy a lot bigger than me on the tour, and I was honestly worried how he'd make it. Anyway, he did. Crawling on your belling 100s of feet under the ground, with the ceiling scraping your back is very eerie. If you have any claustrophobia, you'll either get rid of it pretty quick, or go insane. One of these "crawl on your belly" parts had a 90 degree angle straight up, so that you had to bend your body and push with your toes in order to worm your way up to the next room.

But I recommend the Frozen Niagra tour for the less adventurous. And yes, there is a lodge, complete with a kennel.

Uh, yeah. I won't be doing that. ;)

I have a recurring nightmare about that exact situation.

Ok now that freaks me out. I can live without the rock pressing down on my body underground experience. 8O :?

Looks like you've effectively scared the bejesus out of most of us, Malik.

I know. You would think it's scary enough to just meet Malik in person after reading his posts in the tank, NOW I find out I have to meet him and then wedge my body into weird angles nearly pinning myself hundreds of feet underground between rocks too! Makes me wanna go run right out and buy my tickets..... 8O :haha:

There's two things Syl doesn't do : spinny rides and tight spaces.

I could really really take that to a naughty place, Syl. :P

The tight spaces I can understand, but the spinny... oh.

Guess you won't be sharing my cabin then, Syl....

After watching the Descent, I realized that this is something that would cause what little claustrophobia to hop up and down like a Ritalin child off meds. Will make spoiler for those who haven't seen the movie:
Spoiler
The stupid Bat Boy monsters in that did nothing for me, but that scene of her getting stuck....and then....cave in.
Nope, I've done rock climbing with my fear of heights, but I don't think I could ever do spelunking. Plus I'm 6'2" and over my "maximum recommended weight." I'd be screwed for sure.

Hey, Dukkha brought it up! They do have normal tours, too. Even one for kids.

But I just thought it would be fun to camp and meet everyone. It wouldn't even have to be at Mammoth, though that seems to be the direction people are converging.

Now come on, I've never said anything "scary" to you, have I? Smartass, maybe, but not scary. :)
