Don't pretend you're sorry
I know you're not
You know you got the power
To make me weak inside
Girl you leave me breathless
But it's okay 'cause
You are my survival
Now hear me say
I can't imagine life
Without your love
Even forever don't seem
Like long enough

'Cause everytime I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love
Everytime I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

Maybe I'm a drifter
Late at night
'Cause I long for the safety
Of flowing freely
In your arms
I don't need another life line
It's not for me
'Cause only you can save me
Oh can't you see
I can't imagine life
Without your love
And even forever don't seem
Like long enough

'Cause everytime I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love
Everytime I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

Go on and pull me under
Cover me with dreams, yeah
Love me mouth to mouth now
You know I can't resist
'Cause you're the air
That I breathe

Everytime I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love
Everytime I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
And baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning your love

Baby I can't help it
Keep me drowning
In your love
I keep drowning
In your love
Baby I can't help it
Can't help it no, no

'Cause everytime I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love
Everytime I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

And are you just waving or drowning?
It's so hard to tell when you're so far away.

Not Waving But Drowning
Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.
Fabulous poem by Stevie Smith. . . thanks for making me think of it, Caglio!

When I am grown to a man's estate,
I shall be very proud and great,
And tell the other girls and boys,
Not to meddle with my toys!

Actually, I was quoting from Kirsty MacColl. However, I didn't use the quotey box.

happened to me. my brother pushed me into the deep end of the pool. my head hit the ladder and blacked out. came to with the lifeguard telling me. "if you can't swim, stay in the shallow end." I was five or six at the time.

I don't remember how old I was, but toddler-ish. We were visiting relatives in Maine. I followed my teenaged cousin into the surf. Next thing I remember, I was flat on my back on the beach, staring up at the sky. Must've blocked out the part where the wave took me under.

Oh, I've seen plenty of waves since then; I grew up 5 blocks from Lake Michigan. I just don't remember that specific one. Which is probably a blessing, considering.
