Just got back from the cinema. What on earth was that all about!
I guess I'm gonna have to wait for the DVD to figure out the story.

Really enjoyed the phasers set to goosebumps though...what a blast!

Also, I thought some of the scenes were bordering on 3D. Or maybe I just need to go the cinema more often.

You really don't want it spoiled for you Menolly, and at some point (even if we keep spoiler tagging stuff), something you're not going to want to know is going to sneak through.

OK...OK...OK...

*bowing out of thread*

I saw it tonight, first ever star trek programme/film i've seen. I enjoyed it.

FIRE EVERYTHING! makes me laugh every time.

EDIT - Sabotage playing during the joyride was fantastic as well.

And close the door on the way out so we can talk about you......

Seriously, if you're a Trek fan at all, you don't want the movie spoilered.

Spoiler
1. Plumbing mishap was dumb and silly.Where did the water go where his body appeared?
One point I would like to make... what happens to the *air* when they teleport into any place that inst a vacuum? I always thought it would be neat if people triggered shock waves from displacing air whenever they teleported. It would probably sound about as intense as a thunder strike. (maybe more so)

Don't let the flies bother you. Trek has never been too hot on the *science* half of science fiction.
Spoiler
How is a black hole sending people through time any more silly than slings hotting around the sun at warp speed to time travel? (I prefer the mysterious "magnetic field" from 1st Contact, but even that's just treknobabble.)
What matters to me is how well the new actors captured these characters and their chemistry with each other, which is *really* what made the original trek so great. It was very well acted, Pine plays a hell of a Kirk, he surprised me with his performance. Shatner has become such a parody of himself recently, we needed to be reminded why we loved him in the first place.

I will give full credit to Urban. He absolutely nailed McCoy. Especially surprising since he's typically in movies that feature him freaking out and killing a bunch of people.

I saw it last night. LOVED IT. Loved it. I will see it again. You cant watch Trek or any SciFi epic and not pick apart the science and the storyline. It has to be. relax, and enjoy.
Spoiler
I thought the resetting of the storyline and creating a whole new trek universe without VUlcan was brilliant. Jus freaking brilliant. And now Old Spock can be a mentor and guide to those who are now in a new timeline.

I completely agree, Urban channeled DeForrest Kelley perfectly. Well done.

When you think about it the interaction between McCoy and Kirk was totally nailed. Remember all the times when Kirk would run out of sickbay because there was an emergency after being told he needed to stay there or some terrible thing would happen to him (like maybe he would be stuck with Romulan ears forever)?
Spoiler
That whole scene with him chasing kirk down the hallways with a hypo and a tricorder was spot-on and funny as hell IMHO.

how is Nero suppose to save his planet? He's a miner, not a physicist. Or a politician. Sometimes this time travel stuff is too confusing for mere mortals. If waiting 25 years for Spock to catch up to him didn't calm him down, putting the tools for revenge in his hands was all he needed to start his spree. Put another way, getting the red matter was like Kahn getting the Genesis device. Dare him not to use it.
Spoiler
Nero doesn't need to be. All it takes is to tell his people - any species really - and the problem is resolved, because in 150 years time surely a solution will be worked out.
For you and me, that would seem a no-brainer. I was talking to my wife about this and her reply nailed it.
Spoiler
"His name is Nero! That's as subtle as a 2x4."
Or, put another way,
Spoiler
"I just watched my planet destroyed. Trust me, I'm emotionally compromised." Toss in a load of self-absorption and you can hear the crackle of fire with fiddling in the background.
Spoiler
Of course, Nero might have intended to retrieve Spock after imploding the Federation and delivering him to Romulus. Revenge still had to come first.

Honestly, with the warning in the title, I don't think they are necessary, but everyone else was doing it mom!
