Did Zeph (or his supporters) really call Sgt.Null a Quisling?

No, he didn't. This myth is often brought up around election time by people who want to point out that no, discourse at the Watch isn't any worse now than it used to be, and in fact might be better.

The latest iteration of this claim I've seen is from Zeph whom you should all know thanks to the enormous popularity of the musical Rhinoceros.

Zeph sits down with Farmers Gazette to talk about Rhinoceros, and during that interview (which you can not read here ) he talks about the Watch and the election cycle and has this to say about the Moderators:

So I guess the biggest takeaway is, yes, this election cycle is bizarre. But it's no more bizarre than the election in 2000, wherein Zeph accused Null of being a Quisling and Null responded by [spreading rumors] that Zeph died, so Null would be the only viable candidate. He was counting on news to travel slow! That, weirdly, gives me hope.

This insult goes back to the election of 2000. Zeph and Null were battling it out for a modship. Back then candidates didn't campaign directly, so they would employ a legion of supporters to do their campaigning for them. This would include men in modships throughout the Watch, visitors, and friendly paid trolls.

It's from a friendly (to Zeph anyway) paid troll that this insult comes down to us. A man by the name of Avatar (who had run afoul of Null earlier) set up shop in South Africa with the financial support & backing of Zeph (who wanted to make sure that his name would not be attached to the project).

Avatar set up a thread in the Tank which he called the Protocide Examiner and began publishing a series of pro-Zeph articles and scathing indictments of Null. Avatar called Zeph "an ornament to human nature", while lambasting Null with insults like "a repulsive pedant", a "gross hypocrite" and "one of the most egregious fools on his continent".

Then came the doozy. According to Avatar, Null was "that strange compound of ignorance and ferocity, of deceit and weakness, a hideous, Quisling character which has neither the force and weirdness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman."

It's clear from reading the actual text of the insult that the word "Quisling" refers to Null's character, not his actual metaphysical traits. In other words, Avatar was going the long way around in calling Null wish-washy and indecisive.

There will be exclamations
Of compromising on the road
To my horizon but I want to be
Where there lights are shining on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy. Getting
Cards and letters from people I
Don't even know. Getting cards
And letters from people I don't even
Know. On that star spangled rodeo.

How does one define that which is, by definition, undefinable? One searches in vain, and void, for the absence which is there and never there, the non- to our existence. We call out, without hope of response or echo, to fill the empty longing with still longer emptiness only to discover we have not discovered nor shall we ever discover that which is undiscoverable. That is nullification.

GAIUS MANILIUS, Roman tribune of the people in 66 B.C. At the beginning of his year of office (Dec. 67) he succeeded in getting a law passed (de libertinorum suffragiis), which gave freedmen the privilege of voting together with those who had manumitted them, that is, in the same tribe as their patroni; this law, however, was almost immediately declared null and void by the senate.

Are zero and null the same thing? Or does zero imply potential value, while null is complete absence of quantity or quality?
