Ron Burgunihilo wrote:What you are saying is quite reasonable and I strongly sympathize with it, yet I find myself observing that just those sorts of sentiments may be used to rationalize the perpetual obfuscation of the truth. I'll let others more qualified than I judge whether Vraith's delivery was apropos to the audience. But as someone who has spent years in therapy himself, I admire the courage and honesty of Vraith's remarks, and suspect that his intuition is more reliable than may immediately be apparent. An epiphany that is painless is no epiphany at all.
In any case, it is impolite to speak of those I do not know on such intimate terms, even if a spectacle has already been made of the situation. I wish everyone well.
That's fair enough Ron and a very good point you make about 'hiding' the truth. Personally, I think it works sometimes to let people arrive at their truth in their own time, rather than force feeding medication. Also, in my view, epiphanies come in all sorts of different shapes/situations and whilst pain may be necessary for the birth of some, that does not make it a prerequisite for all.
As for aproposnessness (yes it's a word), I think a certain fragility was already apparent and the receiver's response perhaps indicated something of its appropriateness. Though, as you imply, I may be unqualified to make these assumptions! My motivations boil down to erring on the side of caution when it comes to harming others.
And apologies Vraith, if as Ron seems to be suggesting, this is impolite towards you, although you seem big and 'bad' enough to handle it!

I really wasn't trying to imply that you had no right to judge anything, even though I can see where it seemed that way, but I would like it to be clear that I make no judgment concerning the style of Vraith's statement. The substance I admire both in terms of insight and motivation. My psychologist / therapist (or, self-styled 'life coach') used to say that angst was growth trying to happen. Having experienced a panic attack (something I can only describe as a glass case of emotion with no apparent outlet) and survived it, I can vouch for the truth of this statement. We come to believe that certain types of growth will kill us because they take us away from what is comfortable and familiar, but it is only by surviving this emotional crucible that we recognize that we can transcend it, and use the energy for growth.
Reading a bit between the lines (since, indeed, many of the lines are missing), the vulnerability you are sensing seems to me like the leading edge of a crucible of angst. I have the nerve to say this only through a flicker of recognition of my own experience. Then again, my intuition is not quite as unencumbered as Vraith's, so there you go.

("Cruel to be kind" can only be justified when the person on the receiving end knows enough about you that motive is not in doubt. Otherwise, it's just cruel to be an ass.)

Hey guys, the damage is done so do we really need to keep rehashing this?

Edit: Note to self - "wait."
Thanks, Ron. Good check on that.

All you have to do, Avatar, is donate the remaining WGDs to me...then you will truly be out of business (until the next cycle)...and give me the joy of giving some to others who have already hit me up to get a White Gold Ring...

Whoa, thanks. wow, that was easy.
Me giving a genuine apology to someone: much harder.

Bwahahaa! You caught me.
I didn't even catch me doing that.

I guess that I must suffer from that affliction myself, then.
I just thought I sounded awfully self-righteous before I edited the post.
So I just edited it, and went for hypocrisy instead.

I would, but it turns out soliciting WGD is against the rules, and I couldn't possibly be party to that.
However, I am considering some sort of challenge or something, just to dump the rest. (I have to get rid of them every now and then otherwise they just mount up...)

Excuse me but FORUM soliciting is against the rules... I have YET to forum solicit since I got spanked the last time. And Dr. Gamgee is simply offering a reasonable solution to save you time and energy that you would otherwise spend in ridding yourself of those wgd's rather than soliciting for his own gain...

I guess it salts the wounds for some people more than others...
But I kinda hate that when there's open conflict, people often try to shut it down because it will make someone feel uncomfortable.
vraith- Sorry I was such an ass.
I just "had to" try to drive some damn point of mine home.
You got Zorm's reply, and given that your response showed humility... how could I POSSIBLY think I was going be able to add something useful to you by condemning you with my pride?
I'm sorry.
You were even thinking of me in that one post? (I'm glad that came out cause I wouldn't have figured it out on my own.

Blinder than you give me credit for...) Thank you.

I'm not sure how anyone else sees it, but my feeling is you do it jokingly. Also, I don't think you've ever PMed me with any WGD$ solicitations, which I find to be annoying, considering all the other PM's I get are KW business related. Then there's the motivation factor: I don't know if Jenn simply wants the ring for herself, wants to get it to give to Menolly, or just wants to get it so Menolly can't get it. Either way, My WGD$ are mine to use as I wish, and I think it's a bit tactless to be PMing me for them.

Wonder how many people she PM'd?

I assume everyone but Menolly who has WGD$.

how much would it cost in real gold [if one was paid minimum wage] to pm everyone asking for wgd's?
that seems like a lot of work...unless there's a secret mass pm shortcut.
