I also found the "Leia" character to be far more interesting than Padme. That is of course partly Natalie's fault and partly Lucas' for writing such a stiff character. Leia was a little fire ball. I liked that.

I think Carrie was about 19 when she first played Leia. I liked her better then of course. In any case is doesn't much matter.

In the second film Leia began to seem less like a spunky princess type and more like a commander. She became more like a tough sister or mother type to me than a love interest. At the end of A New Hope, when they are handing out medals, she is dressed like a beautiful princess.

I liked Leia better in the second, and best in the third movie. To me, it's like she still had baby-fat in the first movie, then gradually toned up to her "adult" form.
