If anyone else is going from this side of the pond, and could bear to have me as a travelling companion, C could stay home and look after the dog!

You always can bunk with me or one of the others that don't snore.

I snore, I admit it. There I said it.
All you have to do is take the flight alone, someone will pick you up at the airport. Ali and I did it for Wadley last time.

Oh, dear Lorin, that may be an offer that I can't refuse. I've been on the web and found out that ABQ (see, I'm learning the lingo already) is in New Mexico and it looks absolutely beautiful. I've also found out that I can fly direct from Kirmington in Lincolnshire!! But the price of a return ticket - nearly 900 GBP!!!! I dare say that there are cheaper flights available if I look hard enough.
Three hurdles:
firstly I have to pluck up the courage to ask, no tell, C that I want to go to America, on my own, next year
secondly, I hardly ever do anything "on my own". The thought terrifies me. I even had trouble travelling between Lincoln and Chester on a bus - missed the connection at Digbeth and ended up having to go to Nottingham and getting C to fetch me from there. The thought of where I might end up if I attempt flying on my own.............. I've only flown twice, once to Dublin and once to Portugal.
thirdly - the snoring. Well, if I'm tired enough I should be able to get over that one - and C tells me that I snore too, but I really don't believe him.
I'm thinking seriously about this. Timing isn't a problem, any time in August I will be free.

What about June? I'm pretty sure we're looking at June.
...although would August work instead for others?

That's why God invented ear plugs.

Ah, June. Not the beginning as that's the AGM and as I'm the President I have to be there - or not if I'm not available

If I time it right I can get the August publications done early - I usually try to get CDs to my CD man a month before publication (1st August). And York Family History Fair is the end of June, but what the hell, I can miss that too. So June no probs. I did notice that the temperature in August was a bit high (89 degrees!). And I refuse to wear shorts.

Can't think why I got August into my head.

I may have to fly in depending on finance. I may be by myself. if this happens, I would need a carpool. I need to win the damned lottery.

No worries about carpool, Sarge. As you'll recall, I always had a car full of other Watchers whereever we went, and most others did too. You're always welcome...although not having Julie along will cast a pallor on the proceedings.

Carpools won't be a problem. Airport pickups/dropoffs likewise. Plenty of folks will have cars.
Io, think of it as a grand adventure!
lorin, I missed seeing Taos last time -- it would be very cool to pop up there this time around.
HELL NO to August in New Mexico.

Too freakin' hot.
June 21st is definitely doable. I'm putting it on my calendar. Settled!

That's what I said to Lorin "I want to have an adventure while I still can" or something similar.

Well it looks as though you are going to be lumbered with me in ABQ in June - moreso Lorin.
It occurred to me that my passport might have run out so I asked C - then I casually announce that I might need it next year as I was thinking of going to America for a few days. I might as well have said that I was going to walk round to Sainsburys for all the reaction I got. After 40 years it seems I still don't know my dear husband. So I explained why - and it is very difficult explaining it to someone who never reads books, let alone SRD, and it seems he has no objections.
ABQ here I come!

If it's June I may miss it yet again, as I may have a wedding to attend around then. We'll see.

Unlikely. They're having a hard enough time picking a date that will work for everyone that needs to be there.
Originally, they were talking (this) Xmas - thank goodness that's not happening.
