Ah, the eternal juggling game of which is more inconvenient.

Yes, but you
know the hassle that is rebooting 8 times.
I daresay you are even becoming more skilled at rebooting 8 times, or at least the skill of figuring out how to spend those little fragments of time while you wait for it to reboot each time.
And you don't have to ask anything of random people you don't know.
I have a printer that I had trouble setting up the first time, so I've put it off.
For probably... 2 months by now.
So twice a week, I plan in an extra 10-20 minutes to go to the library right before my class to print handouts.
It adds a lot of stress and complicates things.
So, umm, in my not-attempting-to-properly-set-up-the-printer, I'm quite a good bit worse.

I have become very skilled at glaring and threatening to drop it off the roof if it doesn't work
this time. It knows I'm bluffing, though.
What's the problem with the printer? Been a few years since I owned one myself, but I'm actually trained at troubleshooting some issues of that nature.

I got the printer working today!
I used the mac to get it online, but then it wouldn't print from the mac. (some long error message with a filename like /usr/lib/.../cups/ and stuff)
So I got the new PC to actually find the newly-on-the-network printer.
I don't deal with hardware these days, so... I was pleased.
If I encounter intractable printer issues when I am in
manic "I am doing a MathCounts camp" mode in 2 weeks, then you will hear from me!
I don't trust the things.

So you plugged it into the mac, which won't let you print to it, but can find it on the network with the PC?

Bloody computers.

Literally a pet peeve: That moment when one pet you love eats another pet you love.
Yes, this happened today.

That's awful Deer. Natural, but awful.
Who got eaten? And by whom?

that moment when...
...in an online community you started to frequent a little bit ago, the name of someone you've known irl starts to appear in the comments.

A laughing dove (aka Senegal dove) I was "rescuing" after it got injured in my classroom escaped while its cage was being moved, and the cat was quicker than we were. He was so cute, too.

Think I picked it up from the other thread after you mentioned it there. Yeah...cats...had to dispose of the corpse of a fairly large rat that mine brought in on Sunday morning...joy.

Keeping your cat(s) inside solves that problem. Just sayin'.

Can't keep 'em in...came to me as strays so the outside habit was firmly engrained. They get really frantic if we try.
Believe me, I would if I could.

Yeah, I know -- it's tough to retrain them. We've had both of ours since they were kittens and have always kept them inside. They'd be scared to death to go outside -- the sky would be too big.

Haha, yeah, they don't seem to have a problem training us though...

So... about this.
I only encountered an intractable printer issue the night before the last day of the last week camp.. happily enough.

The library sufficed for my needs for that one instance.
I had a paper jam.
Pulled out the toner cartridge, and the 3 sheets that got stuck, put toner back.
The printer was in the middle of a duplex job, so I pressed the "continue" button on the printer and it finished printing that just fine.
But then every time I would send a new document to print after that, I'd promptly get an "error - printing" message. The printer wouldn't even really make noises or start.
Happily, it's not super-urgent.
3 weeks until I really start up teaching stuff again.

Hmm. Did any of your jammed pieces of paper rip? Sometimes a little chunk of paper in an awkward spot will give you an error.
Might also be worth pulling out the toner cartridge and putting it back in again. And of course I'm sure you've turned the beast off and on since the original issue.
Printers are stupid. I thought we were supposed to be paperless by now...

that's an idea..
ali wrote:And of course I'm sure you've turned the beast off and on since the original issue.
Oh yes, a bunch.
And made sure to have it -and- the computer I'm sending the document from off at the same time.

yez. It's like they have a list of demands, but it's so difficult to figure out what they want.

I think I remember you mentioning that it's a network printer that's connected to both a PC and a Mac. Have you tried connecting it directly to the computer you're printing from?
