I'm still baffled as to why anyone would intentionally design poo-shaped candy. Granted, I don't really consider Peeps to be edible in the first place, but still.

(I'm finding it seriously difficult to be serious in a thread about 'Peeps/Poops'),
anyway, I'm sure (sh)it's to do(o) with this emoticon,

if you make anything commonplace enough people will embrace it (look at how
the Playboy bunny symbol became mainstream).
