The North American region 1 DVD's are due out Valentines Day 2006.
Anyone close to or in Canada willing to tape the Christmas Special?
FWIW, around December 1 BBC announced that the in addition to a Canadian version of the DVD being released they plan to release a US version of the DVD set of the 9th Dr. series staring C. Eccleston and B. Piper. BBC's announcement included the information that this DVD set will have identical content to the UK set recently released.
p.s. I am preparing several crow main courses since several people in the local Dr. Who group, stated in uncompromising, non-debatable and unambigous terms BBC would NEVER RELEASE the 9th Dr. series until it had been shown on US TV.
Thanks for the heads-up, SPKx! Looking forward to this first look at David Tennant as the new Doctor. I'm a little apprehensive, as I thought Eccleston was superb and I'll miss him. But as long as the good stories and quality production values continue, I'll keep watching.
I watched the Christmas Special last week and here's my view on David Tennant: His personality (and facial expressions) are close enough Christopher Eccleston so you don't miss him. However, Tennant is also different enough so it won't be a rehash.
A funny line was the Doctor complaining that he didn't get the hair colour he wanted in his latest regeneration.
This is week old news, but the Season 1 set is now available on DVD here in Canada (it won't arrive in the U.S. until the summer), so if any of you want to do some border crossing.....
I finally saw the first two episodes of this new series last night. I was totally blown away. The feel for the original series is still there, but the better production than any Dr. Who I have ever seen made it wonderful.
I have never had the opportunity to see any episodes after Peter Davidson's Doctor, other than the first Colin Baker at a con where he was a featured guest when he first took over the role. So I have a lot to wonder about what may have developed to the main story line during the two most recent Doctors tenures that will affect this new series, or if some things alluded to in the second episode are all new to this series.
And the US release of the DVDs for this series will be in July, woo-hoo!
Would y'all mind if I post my thoughts on each episode as I see them? Or would they need to be put in spoilers in case someone else hasn't seen them yet?
We'd love to hear your thoughts, Menolly. Glad you liked what you've seen so far!
I noticed the 1st season DVD set finally became available here, but it was going for $99 (CAN) at HMV. That seems rather steep to me. I like the new Doctor Who but not enough to drop that amount of money on it. I generally despise HMV, as its prices are always inflated compared to other local retail shops (not to mention HMV's selection sucks). I'm going to hunt around for a better deal.
