Kevin's Watch

As has been said before, there are a lot of disturbing things in the books...I'm gonna have to break this up into two parts, one for wach of the series', because I just can't pick out which is the most disturbing to me...
During the first Chronicles...the descriptions of the people in the Leprosarium and Lena's rape rank first of the most disturbing parts, in my mind...

In the Second Chronicles; Linden's description of her father dying ("...you never loved me anyway...") is awful, as is her suffocating her mother...and the entire ritual to take Covenant into the Land in "The Wounded Land"...especially where the children are involved.
There are more, but those stand out the most to me.

I'll have more to say Later, I am trying to recall a scene where a Raver is revelaed and it kills a man...I'll review my books soon!

There are many scenes in the chronicles that made me react with "Dude, that's messed up". Here are my top 3 (pardons on any misquotes, I do not have the books here for reference):

1. "Tull's Tale". Pretty much beginning to end, but the most haunting line for me was Mhoram's last: "They should not have touched the Stone." A perfect cap to a breathtaking chapter. I don't think I recovered enough to pick up the book again for days.

2. TC challenging Bannor about choosing The Oath over his wife. ("Could you bear it?" "No".) The idea that the Bloodguard actually have feelings makes their burden and the respectful yet taken-for-granted treatment by the others at Revelstone seem much more poignant to me.

3. Foamfollower carrying TC through Hotash Slay. 'Nuff said.

Clearly, there are many other choices. Finding out it was Atiaran who summoned Troy, it was the Ranyhin's promise to TC that made them stay in TPTP, Elena and Kevin... the list goes on and on. Without a doubt the darkest and most haunting books I've ever read.

Took me a moment to figure out what you meant with #3. Then I remembered that it seemed at the time that it would cost Foamfollower his life.

Pietten and his taste for blood.

Everything about the Sarangrave. Runnik and Tull's tales are two of my favourite chapters. Especially when (I can't remember which one at the moment) breaks down on Kevin's watch when Troy excitedly asks him how soon the Giants will be there.

1. Joan and her taste for blood.

2. Linden killing her mother by stuffing guaze down her throat.

3. Foul maiming 3 Bloodguard.

#1: The use of Linden as a character.

#2: Elena dropping her robe before TC

#3: The very concept of the Sunbane (but that was a good "Dude, that's messed Up" Moment)

#1: Avoiding getting run over by a car only to find out that you're sitting on a tiny piece of rock 2,000 feet in the air.

#2: The story of the leper who slit his wrists in the bathroom and tried to crawl out under the door.

#3: The Sunbane. Arguably one of the coolest/evilest things ever done in a fantasy story.

1. The Community of Retribution members putting their hands in the fire. Including children. Yeesh.

2. TC not having any reaction to the ministrations of the Lady Alif. He might love Linden, but she's a bit, um, uptight. But one of the Favored? Too bad, dude!!

3. (ok, I need one from the first Chrons) ... Triock. Everything about him. From the time TC shows up, he has one f'd up life (though he tries his best to do what's right for the Land). And then he gets possessed by a Raver.

Strange, nothing from Runes? I wonder what that implies . . . okay I won't go there.

2. The Moon changing colors always got me. There's something horrifying about an entity that extend its power so far.

3. Giants sitting in their homes, allowing a Raver to explode their heads.

Yeah, I know it's been a couple years, but watch your Runes spoilers in this forum.-jay

1) TPTP - Old, frail Lena shishkebabed by Pietten's spear. A tragic life and tragic death.

2) TPTP - Covenant dragging himself, broken ankle and all, across the frozen wasteland of Lord Foul's winter.

3) WGW - Hamako melting into a puddle in his contest with the croyel/arghuleh. A "victorious" moment, maybe, but what a gross way to die.

1. The sige of green power on Revelstone, and Mhorham is the only sane person left.

2. Linden "gauzing" her Mom.
3. Vain blowing up some heads. (that was a cool F'D up!)

1: Elena planting a kiss on Covenant in Glimmermere. Man, that was messed up.

2: The Elohim turning out to be such a gang of selfish brats.

3: The croyel reveal. Yuck!

Covenant raping Lena might be somewhere up there on my list.

You know, after reading through this condensed version of f'ed up moments, I've realized . . . this is one f'ed up series! But in a good way.

The murder of the unfettered one by the Raver/Triok.

Every time Elena refers to TC as "my love". Ick.
