It was about a talking flute - and a witch (called Witchipoo) who was after it. The guy who played the Artful Dodger in the Oliver musical, was the male lead (who owned the flute) and as far as I can remember it was really colourful and everything (trees, buildings, books etc.,) could talk. It was pure kids fantasy and a really good xmas movie, haven't seen for ages so I must see if I can track it down.
There is also Love in the World.

Amazing.........!
All of these movies that everyone here has seen and no one (it appears) has yet to mention (unless I missed it somehow) the one seiries, that could be considered both Sci-Fi and Sci-Fantasy!
If fact, there are two of them.... at least I think they should be considerd.....
Dr. Who
and.....
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Just my opinion, of course....!
And just where do you park 'your' TARDUS, by the way?

I'd put Legend at the top....
Tim Curry's greatest role IMHO.....
Before all the digital effects, and truly awe inspiring. I even like the Director's cut better than the original. The classical music compliments the movie greatly.
And TIME BANDITS!!!!! I must have watched that flick a thousand times growing up!!!!!!

The list of 50 films provided by Sevothtarte is impressive, but I wonder what criteria was used to determine what got onto the list. I'm disappointed that the readers of "Europe's biggest movie magazine" (c'mon, name names) left TRON out in the cold. Don't try to tell me it belongs in Sci-Fi, because a) TRON is as fantastical as any film out there, and b) this Fantasy category plays loose with the definition of fantasy anyway. So, they elected dog poop like Scooby-Doo at No. 46, while altogether leaving out a classic like TRON? I think it's a case of tyranny of the majority.

I'd go with you on Tron, Matrixman, and with RGDO_50 on Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy.
Whatever the criteria for the list, they obviously included sci fi. That opens the door to a lot of my favorites.
Pitch Black
Terminator 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Andromeda: Double Helix & Harper 2.0
Independence Day
Max Headroom
also must mention:
HP Prisoner of Azkaban
Roxanne
Deadly Love
Wuthering Heights (Fiennes/Binoche version)
Fight Club
SRD says The Gap will never be filmed (GI July 8 ), but the way he wrote it, it plays as a film in my head. The Gap film I watch as I read it is one of my all-time fave films -- trilogy, actually.
Thanks for bumping this, dAN. Can't imagine how I never got on this thread before.
