Urgh. . . no, thanks. That reminds me of something. . .My best friend loves this anime called Panda-Z. I hate it. . . it is so stupid. . . drives me up the wall. It is repetetive, pointless, and features stupid plots. I swear it's the most annoying thing I've seen all year. Promise.

My friend told me about Big O; said he liked it better than Cowboy Bebop! Will have to check it out soon. Haven't watched any anime since a few months ago, the two shows being Serial Experiments Lain and the said Bebop.

Also tried Lost Exile. Found the animation superb but the overall show mediocre. Then again: I love airships, and that show was the only one that had 'em. Maybe I should give 'er another chance.

Try the Macross saga, LOTS of airships in that one!!!

Hmm. I can see why he'd compare the two; they both have a noir-y feel, and Roger Smith from The Big O reminds me slightly of a more mature and controlled Spike Spiegel.

I won't be able to say for certain which I prefer until I've finished The Big O, but I think I've enjoyed the first few episodes more than the first few of Bebop.

Yeah, Bebop didn't pick up for me until the "Ballad of Fallen Angels" episode.

And I think the guy who voices Spike (in English) also voices someone in Big O. Maybe the main character?

After checking IMDB, I find you're quite right. The same bloke voices Spike and Roger. That explains the similarity.

Furthermore, the femme fatale tones of Faye Valentine make an appearance in The Big O too. I thought it sounded like her.

Hmm. By the time it finishes, The Big O is extremely confusing. I'm still trying to work it out - a task not made easier by me watching the almost as confusing RahXephon in the last few days.

Anime plots can be so complex.

Anime is not for the faint-hearted!

Unless you're watching King of Bandit Jing, as I've recently discovered.

Visually quite pretty and with a couple of nice rock songs as incidental music, but otherwise a really dire series. It's entirely episodic (i.e. there is no overall plot connecting the episodes) and Jing's confrontations with evil beings / rivals / whatever generally consist of him shouting "Gimme a Kir Royale" over and over. It's a shame; the first epsiode showed some promise in the zany humour department, but even the gags fell flat by the time the second episode began.

I need to watch more anime. . . I have a backlog. Somehow I seem to spend all my spare time here. . or playing scrabble with the gang. . what's up with that?

I've just finished watching the six episode series Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket.

Don't let the title put you off. It's not really about the mobile suits and there's surprisingly little combat; the war is fundamental to the series, but the whole thing is really about people. It's about bringing war to the personal level.

So far, Gundam 0080 is the one and only anime that has actually made me cry.

Cov, don't let Jenn know you were crying... she'd have to fly over and comfort those big, puppydog eyes...
