This weekend I'm heading to Chicago with my wife for my little brother's 30th birthday party. (Of course, little doesn't really apply, 'cause he's probably 5 inches taller than me.

) And grandma is watching the little Root this weekend, so a good time will be had by all.

I'm the bass player. Here's a pic of me last weekend doing an outdoor gig:
Then there's a place that's plastered with pics of me playing bass: dannysouthard.iwarp.com/index_1.html

Funny, it never looks backwards when I play in front of the mirror......

Leave him alone, Cail -- he's doing his Paul McCartney impression.

Geez...
my wife and aunt are going to MGM Studios in Orlando for Soap Opera Weekend (again), and I get to drive them there and back.
But not to make things bad, my grandson and I are going to kill time at Sea World and then hang out at Old Town near Kissimmee until this whole soap opera stuff is over with.
Good thing for annual passes! (Both at Disney and Sea World)

Tonight I will be playing a 6 person version of my favorite game, which is the Illuminati card game. Lots of backstabbing, bribery, secret deals and power grabbing. I can't wait. Hopefully everyone will show up. I'm not sure what tactic to use tonight. I guess it depends on what Illuminati I get. If I get the Discordian Society, I will probably play to be silly and will have a fun time causing Chaos throughout the game. So I guess I will try to be the Illuminati in question.
Such a fun game.

Last night we went out and stopped at a place that has karaoke on Friday nights. Highlights were listening to a terrible rendition of Summer Nights and a pretty good one of Operator.
I've been on a Kurosawa kick lately; so this morning, I watched The Seven Samurai.

so this morning, I watched The Seven Samurai.
If you got it all fitted into one morning, you must've got up early!

We fired up the grill and cooked turkey hot dogs and turkey burgers and served them up with veggie chips. My goddaughter and her friend/assistant came over... she has the audacity to be 19 now! I keep telling them not to grow up, but they never listen! I exposed them to "Black Adder" and Grahm Norton. The kids were hyper little maniacs... moreso than usual. It was a groovy weekend.

Hectic but fun. Left work early on Friday to catch the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center; they played Dvorak, Smetana, and a flute concerto by Mozart. I'd never heard the Smetana before but loved it. Then I stuck around for a couple of hours to catch a free concert by R. Carlos Nakai, which was pretty darn cool. (DC tourist tip: The Kennedy Center offers a free concert every day at 6pm. Usually it's nobody you've heard of, but sometimes you get lucky.)
I spent Saturday in Baltimore as usual for Czech class. Stopped and did a bit of shopping on the way home -- used a Borders gift card that I got at work to get the first book in the Farseer trilogy and a CD of the Smetana piece that I'd heard the NSO do the day before.
Yesterday, I went to my Pagan study group meeting, then had dinner with a friend at her house.
I had to work today (despite the fact that it's a federal holiday...) but tonight I'm going to the movies.
This coming Saturday, the girls come home from college for Thanksgiving.

I'll be going to Hampden park on Saturday to see the Scotland v Italy Euro qualifier game.
Basically, if we win, we go through to the finals next year, if we draw we are still in with a chance but have to rely on other results going our way, if we lose, we're out.
There's gonna be 52000 Scots going absolutely mental at 5pm on Saturday when that game kicks off, and for the next 2 hours we will all be singing our hearts out and getting right behind Scotland.
Saturday night will be spent either celebrating a victory, commiserating a defeat, or crapping it waiting for results of the games on Wednesday.
Whatever happens, this is the biggest game we have played for almost a decade, so it's gonna be a massive atmosphere in Glasgow this weekend.
Wish us luck.

If I'd given in to my friends, I'd be on my way to Seattle right now. They're going to the Bears-Seahawks game on Sunday. But my pocketbook said no; so I'm playing it by ear.
I got the movies Stray Dog and The Hidden Fortress, Kurosawa movies, from Netflix; so part of my time will be spent watching those.

On saturday I'm going to see Bill Bailey's 'Tinselworm' tour at Nottingham Arena. It doesn't get much better than Bailey. He is truly the best live comic of this generation, IMO.
