I always tend to think other countries are more evolved than the US when it comes to employment issues and whatnot, but that's really not true, is it? The whole world is messed up.

(Yes, in so many ways.)

I never minded that part. Don't think I could go back to doing HR though. Employees seem more immature and drama-prone these days. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Nah, your employment culture there is just messed up. :D It's different here. Also I suppose the industry I'm in, and the company culture etc.

I hate interviewing because I never know what to ask or how long to go on for, or what I'm supposed to be looking for. :D Also I dislike making snap judgements, and interviews require them.

An Oxford U. study has estimated that within 20 years 35% of all jobs will be lost to automation. It's a massive change in the offing for which, to say we are unprepared is an understatement. Middle management, hospitality, much professional work, driving and haulage, freight handling and factory work.........all will be affected big time (although oddly Rune, shelf-stacking seems to be one job that is relatively safe so there's hope for you and me ;) ). In the face f these realities Finland's proposed experiment in paying all working aged adults a living wage with top-ups going to those who choose to voluntarily work seems quite far sighted. As the percentage of population displaced by tech inexorably rises there has to be some serious provision for meeting their needs r their will indeed be 'hell on the streets'!

No, I guess it's just you! :P
72 hrs have now elapsed until hearing if I got the job, or in this case, not.

Luckily we're still a long way from being able to automate my job...not least because nobody is actually sure what I do... ;)

Like Steve Jobs at Apple then. At one point in the recent film on the man one of his co-directors turns to him and asks "What exactly do you do?" It was a good question; he didn't invent or design any of the products and he knew nothing about computers, but he was [by all accounts] the almost perfect boardroom predator. His skill was bussines, and the out manouvering out playing and out classing of anyone who stood in his way. Have I described you in a nutshell Av? ;)

Haha, not at all thank goodness. :D I'm more of a...problem finder. A large part of what I do is find flaws and poke holes in new ideas. If people want those ideas / products / strategies to come to fruition, then they have to find solutions to those problems. :D

I'm sort of an industry generalist. :D

Then you are the Winston Wolfe of your company, no less!

No wait - he was a problem fixer, not a finder: you are a professional devils advocate rather ;) .

Hahaha, exactly. :D I sometimes manage to fix some problems, but I'm not required to. Fixing it is usually somebody else's problem. And those are the best kind of problems there are. ;)
