The original Zelda is hardcore. Hardest game in the whole series, with the possible exception of Zelda II: Link's Adventure. It was one of the first games I bought for my NES, back at the turn of the 90s.Lord Foul wrote:The original Legend of Zelda on my Wii. First time I ever played it. I'm a bit ashamed, as I'm a Zelda fanatic.
I've bought my friend's neglected white PSP (the Big N' Fat version) for a song and am now waiting anxiously for it to arrive. I immediately went out and bought four games I'd been wanting to play for ages: Loco Roco, Archer Maclean's Mercury, Me & My Katamari and WipEout Pure. Now they sit on the shelf, silently mocking me until the day the PSP arrives.

I have a PSP but there are no really good games out for it. Having Final Fantasy 1, 2 and Tactics was good, hopefully they will release Final Fantasy 4, 5 and 6 later(especially 6!). Breath of Fire 3 was good for the PSP. Personally I want more RPGs for the PSP, they have promised that Suikoden 1 & 2 would be coming out for PSP but that never came. The PSP true colours will shine under the PS3, I heard that you can get games from the PS3 network and move them to PSP to play(so FF7 could be converted to play on PS3) but I don't know if that is true.
Playing Drake's Fortune and UT3 for PS3. Drake is averger, UT3 Rules.

That is definitely the PSP's achilles heel, the software library just isn't what it should be. It's a really nice piece of hardware too, it's just never really had that develelopmental spark behind it that the DS does. I like the puzzle games on it though, I think that's the one area that has been well catered for. I'll invest in Lumines in the near future and a Rez port would be nice (although I bought that a couple of weeks ago on Xbox Live Arcade). Apparently a PSP port of flOw is imminent too, although there have been technical issues.
There's a new Final Fantasy VII game coming out as well, I think it's a prequel type thing. If they rereleased the original FFVII on PSP I'd be all over it, I feel the games had a bit more charm back then. I'll probably give FF Tactics a try too and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops.

It's a cool little Flash game that's free to play on the internet: intihuatani.usc.edu/cloud/flowing/
It's a bit like the old Snake games on Nokia phones, or perhaps the early part of Spore. You control a worm have to swim around in the water and eat little things to make your worm bigger. There are two other types of food, one red and one blue that make you either go down to a more difficult, darker level (red) or that make you swim up to an easier, lighter level (blue).
It's a fun game and very nicely made. I think the PS3 version has been expanded a bit, with more stuff and more levels and you control the worm by tilting the controller. It's available for download from the PlayStation Store for £3.50

I really should get back on NFS Most Wanted, I played a fair way into it but stopped when I got Forza 2. The police chases were a lot of fun in that game, I found it sad that I would have to stop using my favourite cars after a while though.
I'm currently dedicating more time to Forza Motorsport 2, as I want to do well in my upcoming league and I feel I've gotten as fast as I'm going to get whilst relying on driver aids such as automatic gears, traction control and stability management. I've started relearning the game this way and it's started out quite well, although it is rather easy to change down instead of up and blow the engine. I'll spend another night or two at it and then make a comparison to my old times. I'm thinking about maybe bringing traction control back in as I do like to mash the throttle on exit and let the TC catch the excess power. I want to wean myself off the braking line as well, but if I try and do it all at once I'm sure the result will be lashings of epic fail.
I hadn't really considered the volume of good games, but it does have some original, stand-out titles like Brain Training, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright etc and there's only really Loco Roco on the PSP that compares. Certainly the DS's sales outstrip both the PSP, PS3 and 360's so it must be doing something right!CovenantJr wrote:Odd, I've been feeling that the DS lacks development spark. Got my PSP yesterday...and immediately bricked it! It hadn't been switched on for nearly two years and the software was out of date so it wouldn't play my games.
I tried updating it through my wireless connection but it wouldn't do it (it said it was a router security issue but it wouldn't work on my neighbour's unsecured wireless either) so I downloaded the latest firmware manually. I followed the instructions and made sure the PSP was plugged in before starting the update as the site warned of dire consequences should the battery go flat partway through, only for the damn thing to crash during the install, thus invoking said dire consequences.
It's currently a very attractive and quite expensive paperweight and it'll cost me at least £25 to have it sent away to somebody to unbrick it, so my bargain PSP has become much less bargainy.
