Not much is new. Still working at the same place, still in DC. Batty still lives with me and still doesn't have a job -- although she's been hiring herself out as a cat-sitter in our apartment building and making some cash that way. Still don't have the stuff from my mother's estate settled. Paid a retainer to a lawyer in my hometown, but he has done next to nothing, so I fired him. :(

Magickmaker's gamble on a gummint job didn't pay off. It's pretty much been downhill from there for her. She's been working temp jobs, Plus she totaled her car and her current living situation isn't on a bus line. :( I wish I knew how to help her, but other than offering to co-sign for a new car, there's not much I can do. There's not enough room in my apartment for both kids to live with me.

Anyway...same song, different stressful verse. Hoping things will look up for us in the new year.

Leaving for Nigeria tomorrow early.

Saying goodbye to people I love never gets any easier.

But at least it's warm in Africa! :p

Perhaps beats the -40C currently in Lapland? ;) Only -26 here in the southern Gianthome.

Among other matters, Fuzzy and I climbed up onto the Roaches (Peak District range of hills) to tramp as far as Lud's Church and back. The wind huffed and puffed in a rage vehement enough to almost knock me over during a handful of instances.

At that particular point, one had to sit down to keep their balance.

More scenic shots here.

Not sure whether this mountain bear was attempting to catch invisible snowflakes or craving for honey. :P

Huh, we're in the middle of a serious heatwave. 40°C forecast in Johannesburg today. (104°F)

It's damn hot.

Good luck with the surgery.

Rainy here too, but I've missed the rain. You're all welcome to send your extra this way too, we need all of it.

Rain is plentiful somewhat north of you. While we have little ability to send it south, there is always the reciprocal approach, where you venture this way.

We had the wettest December in recorded history in the UK, and it seems to be continuing this month.

Tired. I feel tired. The heatwave broke (for now) this weekend, and we got some much needed rain, although it may be too little, too late, although forecast to continue for the rest of this week. Still, nice to get a break from the killer heat.

Tired out myself.

Thought I was attending a job interview today but the appointment was only to get dates, time, and place of a job session. So it turns out not to be a regular job interview. When I tried to get further information about what a "job session" actually was the fire alarm sounded and the building had to be evacuated - so I toddled off back to work.

Early to bed tonight ... {yawn!}

Haha, you and me both. I'm even more tired today...definitely not enough sleep.

The weather here is bizzare. A reporter called it "the washine machine", because of the winds circling the British Isles like red indians around a wagon train.
The constant drizzle is probably what's keeping the temperature from plummeting into snow.

It's a pain is what it is! Why can't global warming turn the UK into the Med. It could couldn't it? It should shouldn't it? I want Tenarriffe in Torquay, Portugal in Penzance! Instead alls we get is rain, rain ...and then for a change...more rain! We ****ing had that already! World - get your global warming right, or give us humans a chance to show you how it should be done!

Ah, our weather has dropped back to bearable for now...finally. Starting to get the summer rains, at least two months late. Relief from the weather, but the rains may be too late for agricultural purposes.

At least it's cooled.

Is most of SA's food home grown Av? If so I guess a bad harvest would push up prices due to an increased reliance on imports?

Most of it is produced here indeed. We also export quite a lot of food. So yes, there are quite serious economic implications, especially given the fact that our currency has recently tanked against the big ones.

Anyway, it's almost the weekend. Thank the gods. :D

A little annoyed. Last week I booked up my hotels for Edinburgh and the Nine Worlds convention in London in August; today I decided to double check how to get to my hotel in Edinburgh because it's one I've not stayed at before.

I couldn't find it.

Turns out, the location marked on the map on all the travel sites and the company's home page is wrong - and it was the map location I used when searching for a hotel. The place I've booked - non-refundable, for the lower price - is not in the centre of the city like I thought, but something like a 15 minute walk away, on the opposite site from most of the stuff I'd want to get to.

Kind of my own fault for not paying more attention when booking (I should've noticed there wasn't a space that looked like this hotel on the part of the map that was marked) but I'm still annoyed that they had it marked up wrong. I usually go back and forth from my hotel a lot between shows in Edinburgh, but that's not going to be practical this year.
