Hi all -
Time to step out of the shadows, as it were... I've been reading the boards for some time, but only recently started posting.
I first discovered SRD in '94 or thereabouts when I picked up a copy of Chaos and Order. (I have a long history of starting in the middle of a series, though I did read TCTC in order.)
I was about 14 then, and thought that Sorus Chatelaine was a really cool name.
From the Concise OED:
-sorus -n (pl. sori /rai/) Botany a cluster of spore-producing receptacles on the underside of a fern frond.
Go figure. I still think it's a really cool name.
I went back and read the series from the beginning, and then moved on to TCTC.

Hi everyone,
I am Gary. I am a longtime fan of the Chronicles -- and was thrilled when I saw Runes of the Earth in the bookstore one day, not having heard anything about a new set of Covenant books at all. What an amazing feeling that was!
Anyway, I've always been a huge fan of the series. I don't usually enjoy protagonists that conform too much to stereotypes, and although Covenant was often hard to like, he was (for me) very easy to stay interested in.
Look forward to joining in some nice discussions.

Hello, all! This is great! I am glad I found a place where like minded Donaldson fans band together.
I was first introduced to the Land in the late 70’s, or thereabouts. I had just turned 12 and had received my “adult” library card. I had perused the big people books and judging a book by its cover pulled out the “Illearth War” (my mind is fuzzy as to the cover art, I think it was a picture of a tree with walkways through the branches, or it may have been an old man looking out through the trunks of trees). The cover looked brand new; it had probably just come off the New Editions shelf. There was only one date stamped on the return card. I was number two!
I was instantly taken in by the Land and read the book in a couple of days. I enjoyed the book and brought it back to the library feeling that I was missing something. I mentioned it the librarian and she said that it was the second book in a trilogy. I did not know what a trilogy was, but I pretended like I did. She pointed out “Lord Foul’s Bane”, and I was able to read the whole series in context. I was hooked.
Now I am married with two kids, a full-time job and I am trying to finish my degree in my “free” time. Last summer came the news of Donaldson returning to the Land. I had not been able to pick up a book for pleasure in many years. It was on my Christmas list, but I guess it did not make the cut
. It did get through on Father’s Day, and since I have no classes this summer, it lasted less than a week-a bittersweet week. My craving and searches for more of the Land brought me here…and I have some catching up to do!
It’s a real bummer that the last book of the series will not be out until 2013. My daughter will be 12 then, Funny how things come full circle.
I ramble on. What I really wanted to sat was:
