The British press are up in arms over 'gagging orders' that have been levied by the Courts, preventing them from spilling the beans on a celebrity couple that have been caught indulging in some 3-in-a-bed shenannigans and other such tattle. My response is 'who cares!' Who cares what celebs get up to in their own homes - it's their business and their's alone. [Sounds like a 'dog bites man' story to me anyway; is anyone really suprised?] I think we really have bigger and better things to think about and the sooner the press and the people who swallow such prurient rubbish learn this the better. The place for such stuff is in the glossy gossip mags and not on the front pages of supposedly serious news papers.

Along similar lines, I understand some of the Kardashians are shooting a TV show in Cuba. And I've heard one or another of them was incensed that Cubans not only don't know who they are, but aren't giving them the celebrity treatment they believe is their right.

It's strange really...people are adored for their fame, but the people doing the adoring are the source of that fame.

Another gem of a post that will never see the light of day due to the '404' gremlin that lurks somewhere in the ether between my keyboard and the Watch's forum pages.

It's mainly the inverted commas (' ') and the dash (-) that cause the problem, peter. Also, if you get an error message like the '404' one, just click on the back-arrow on your browser and your post will still be there. (P.S. If you are still not copying and pasting your longer posts into a Word document or Notepad I have less sympathy for you  )

(One further tip: if you accidentally delete your post, CTRL+Z undoes the previous actions you performed starting with the very last one.)

And CTRL+A followed by CTRL+C copies your post into the Windows' buffer!!!!!!!!!!!

So you at least have that much saved as you go (you can only have one piece of text at a time in the buffer, copying another deletes whatever is there already).

U - if I knew how to 'copy and paste' I assure you I'd be doing it ;)

In the meantime, I was saying to my wife earlier how the British Empire was built on the basis of conform or be killed, and she said "Just like ISIS then", and I realised that she was exactly right! We are essentially ISIS that won, one hundred and fifty years on!

Just come back from a few days in Prague and it struck me on the flights how lax they seemed (on BA at least) about use of electronic devices on the plane during take off, landing and in flight. Apart from a quick comment (that most people were so deeply absorbed in their gadgets to bother listening to) asking passengers to ensure hand-held devices were in flight-safe mode there was nothing. If there is such a thing as an i-phone or whatever not being in this mode, then I for one want it off - and I'm not satisfied with a simple trust that people will know how or even bother to comply with a quick announcement that they probably won't even hear!

Another thing - why do people clap when a plane lands safely on the ground: if it's such a tight-rope act of skill that demands applause when the performer pulls it off sucessfully then I begin to question whether it's wise to be present for the trick at all!

Well, there is no definite evidence that they have any sort of actual effect. It's more of a "better safe than sorry" rule.
