Jealous. I could use some leave. On the bright side, knocked out 2/3 vet visits today with no unpleasant surprises - I was planning for a worst-case-scenario regarding Kara's teeth, but the stuff I've been using on her gums does seem to be helping.

I'd say the worst part of this week is over, but I don't want to jinx myself.

And...it's Friday...:D

7:30 am and I am still in my nightie. Ahh, summer. However, Patches (the elderly cat we adopted last year) had 2 mango worms. One had already exited her skin, leaving a nasty welt, and the other I had the privilege of ... you know, You people don't actually need to know about that.

Also, antibiotics in the canary's water bottle. He's had diarrhea for some days. And Aslan, world's most anxious dog, continues to be a tick magnet no matter what I poison him with. Aren't pets a blessing?

Totally. Our cats have both developed a habit of pestering us when we're sleeping because they would like their kibble naow, kthx.

Work has been busy. The firm still hasn't hired anyone to replace the secretary who left, and now the other secretaries on my team are taking vacation days. Bleah.

And it's supposed to be miserably hot here this weekend. I'm not planning to set foot outside for any reason, other than maybe to go to the pool.

Sorry I've gone quiet again. They say it never rains but it pours, and maybe they are right. Having got over the head thing and rid of the dodgy gall bladder I am now waiting for the results of a biopsy on a breast lump. It was taken on Monday and I have to wait until Thursday 28th to find out what it is. Very frustrating. It is hard to deal with something when you don't know what it is that you are dealing with!

I hate waiting for test results. Fingers crossed that whatever it is is benign.

I remember the wait for that.
yeah, that's a really long wait. :(
also, I remember telling people what's going on being difficult.

I've just finished teaching my first week of two weeks math camp.
five middle-school students, about 5.5 hours a day.

I once heard a teacher tell his college students, "your faces are the last thing I see at night when I close my eyes."

the images of these kids' faces are burned into my visual memory.
why should I be so fortunate that people let me teach their kids?

this afternoon, I'm sort of like, "I can do what I want to for awhile, maybe" I'm wandering around the house wondering what I'm supposed to do with myself.
different group of kids next week.

Good luck Io.

Summer Deer? Still, you're so close to the equator it probably barely matters. Freezing week forecast for us...it's like winter suddenly realised it had been slacking off for most of the season.

Don't even talk to me about cats.

Io -- Sending good thoughts your way.

You guys are so cute, complaining about your winter weather. It's forecast to be 100 degrees (38 Celsius) here in DC today -- and as an extra added attraction, we have our typical summer humidity levels, too. :(

Gah. Couldn't do it. I keep telling myself that I should consider getting out of this city. But all else aside, having lived here all my life, I don't think I could cope with actual Weather. I've felt physically and emotionally drained for the past week, and Monday definitely came back around again too soon. Had a most uncomfortable conversation with my boss on Friday, in which he offered me the promotion yet again, and I told him why I didn't want it. He's of the 'ignore the problem until it goes away' school of management. Got to get out of there...

God, I wish it was 38C here today. Instead, I've got a forecast high of 11C. Overall it's been a relatively warm winter...suddenly it decided to make up for it...

Hope it's good news Io.

I don't wish for 38C, but maybe 25C 8)

10C here at the moment...

Thanks for the good wishes. This coming weekend is Heckington Show weekend and I'm staying with a friend there Friday and Saturday night. I shall be able to stay this year and see the fireworks and hear the concert on the Saturday night. Either it will give me an opportunity to celebrate, or drown my sorrows. Whichever, I'll deal with it.

I hope it's not too hot on Saturday, I'll be in a marquee behind a bookstall most of the day. We've had some very hot weather here lately, but it has cooled down over the last couple of days. At least it's stopped raining!

I'd go for 25C. 22C would be even better. 8)

10C is nothing! It was colder than that when I was in Ireland in April!

(And thank the gods for Google on another tab... )

Yes, your weather sounds more extreme! Super high highs and super low lows :D I posted some snow pics last year and it hardly received any responses - it was a big deal for me though  (although it was probably 1cm of snow if that - I remember seeing photos from Fist and Faith or someone with huge damn piles of it everywhere!)

I remember your reaction to Fist's pics of that snowstorm. It was hilarious.

Hmmph, just because we have normal sane decent weather...most of the time.

So, I feel pretty good. First step of my PC upgrade is done. Installed my new (old) quad-core i7 chip last night.

There were some fraught moments though...like when my PC went into a reboot loop when I first put it in.

Turned out I had to update the BIOS, which is always terrifying.

That concluded successfully, and the chip working, I checked the temps to find (to my horror) it was idling at far too close to the maximum rated temperature.

Turned out my heat sink wasn't fastened down properly.

Fixed that and the idle temp dropped by about 50%.

Took about 3 hours of disassembling, reassembling, testing, disassembling, and reassembling again, but it works great. And I didn't even have to reactivate my Windows.

Now just have to wait for my new graphics card and RAM to arrive. :D
