up to a point it goes up 3 dollars for every mile over that.

I wonder if SRD ever got ticketed for speeding? The State of Az decided to give video ticketing a try. Under 10 miles an hour speeding, no pics of license was taken. So we got a 10 mile an hour buffer to start with,,since 10 dollars was all the State could charge. But over ten mph of the posted speed limit some serious coinage could be charged. A judge here and there had problems with no human being present during photo opportunity if the fine was contested in court..but overall, speeding was held to sanity levels by photo radar application. Then a couple of years ago..a man decided to check out of reality over the issue,,and shot and killed the subcontractor employee who was unfortunately servicing a photo radar installation at the wrong time.. ..Of course constitutional rights were pleaded etc etc.The Guns Right group partnered up with anti Big Brother Paranoids once again..oh wait, maybe they are the same....and now the Photo Radar enforcement concept is now no longer.

I travel down I 17 every weekday morning. Posted speed is 55. I set the cruise control on 60. I pass no one. Everyone passes me. Everyday either going to work or going home..I experience other drivers unable to keep their vehicles in their respective lane at the high speed they are traveling. Insurance companies luv Az because we continue to give them no reason to ever reduce their rates for the drivers in Az.

Höh, how did I miss that bolded text? Some insane formations there, I agree. Makes me wonder how much influence SRD has taken from such phenomena while describing the barren portions of the Land. Would love to climb up there ( ) but not in such insane temperatures. If we make the roadtrip, I would have to arrange time off for the colder months (February/March 2015, perhaps, depending on the pollen levels of those places...).

I think you wanted to show some pics of Grand Canyon on your laptop back in Santa Fe, but we lacked the time? Do you have those uploaded somewhere?

Does anyone here have experiences with American Airlines' travel vouchers? I'm being offered some compensation choices for the mess with the flights; either a smaller sum of cash in euros (which I would not spit at right now) or a flight voucher almost on par with one month's salary (!!!). I'd have to use this within a year and on AA's carrier lines with the limitation of "The redemption of the voucher and subsequent ticketing must be handled by American Airlines personnel or an authorized agent." (I have no idea what that would mean considering future bookings. Probably making an international call to AA's customer service.)

(One of those would pretty much mean an obligatory trip to the States next year and would love to meet people again. I just usually cannot arrange my vacation times but only two or three months beforehand...)

If you know you're going to travel again, particularly a big trip, go voucher.

Just make sure you read the fine print on the voucher first, so that you aren't surprised later on. Blackout dates, whatever. When it's too good to be true, it usually isn't.

The nice thing, I think, is that someone else can use the voucher.

I just happened to be reading the other night about AA's unlimited passes. And how they were such a good deal that AA had to use some chicanery to revoke them. So, sometimes a good things is really a good thing. But don't trust AA too much to honor it.

Well, what can I say, it was a trip! and what a trip it was!

First shout out goes to my road-trip buddy, lorin. Thanks so much for the company and the camaraderie! I wouldn't have had half the fun or gained anything like the richness I got from the whole thing without your presence. All I can say for next summer is, Venice Baby!

The lead up the SRD event and the event itself were just great. I was lucky in that I got to Albuquerque early in the week and so met people in small groups before either the barbequeue or the actual event itself. The first night in (at lorin's b'day party) I met Lady Tam, danlo, Grace, Jenn, lorin, ali, SD, Menolly and Iolanthe. It was excellent to get introduced to so many so early, and it meant that as time went on and more people arrived I had the opportunity to speak at length with just about everyone. (I had to almost interview Cord Hurn before an audience to get to talk to him, as others (i.e. Jenn and co.) were hell-bent on drunkeness and merrymaking )

By the time the barbeque rolled around I made it my business to have a word with everyone, so on the night of the SRD event the only people I didn't know were kvickie (whom I got to talk to about cows a lot (she's a vet)), and the few people (whose time was limited) I didn't get to talk to: bungleman and guest, and Gilden-Fire (hopefully another time).

The SRD event itself was great and SRD himself was all I expected him to be. (Amidst much hand-waving) I got to ask a question which elicited the info that he has a new fantasy story written, so I was chuffed about that. And I got to give him a Gaelic dictionary for the phrase, 'bodach glas', which he says is from [url=lac-live1.is.ed.ac.uk:8180/luna/servlet/detail/UoEwal~1~1~57443~100315:Fergus-MacIvor-sees-the-Bodach-Glas]Walter Scott[/url]. (Now that I've done a bit of research about it I find that I've been wrong about it all along! Oh well! The intent was pure!) I'd love to be able to sit down with him and have a extended conversation, but there are limits to what any author can do for fans.

The trip to Valles Caldera was excellent. To see Andelain and the Soulsease (ali oops! ) was super, but the piece de resistance was the way danlo set up our lunch to be held at a reconstruction of the 'Berrett' incident in TPTP. The lady country singer was a perfect Suzie Thurston and the saloon itself was perfect for 'The Door'. Kudos, danlo!!!

Lady Tam's High Tea was lovely and for once we didn't have to listen to Iolanthe complain about how Americans just don't know about how you have to pour the boiling water directly over the leaves, and how half-and-half just won't do, and how...... Thank you Lady Tam for finally demonstrating that some Americans can make tea!

The Santa Fé trip has been catalogued upthread and the folks I travelled know only too well how I feel about them and their antics! That said I'd gladly traipse through Pueblo ruins, soak in arsenic waters, listen to tea encomia, and risk travel sickness on windy mountain roads to be in such company again! Three years time, we'll do it all again (and next time we'll get to visit Taos Pueblo!)

That's the first half of my gathering in. In the next one I'll try and namecheck and acknowledge all the rest of those I met.

Three years time? I'll be there, God willing (as my piano tuner used to say every time he made the next appointment).

Great shot Sarg..For me..the easiest is from desktop to tinypic,,to here. To go from facebook to here probably takes as many steps...maybe null. Should be nothing more than copy/paste a ..img..file,,once you have it in that format.

What is that, 9-10 in the morning? Shadows and color tell me you did it while still cool.

In the woods, mosquitoes and other buzzers will reach the unmentionables. Nettles and conifers and other illearth plants will scratch at the legs. I tried my usual after-work sauvakävely and as soon as the wind changed direction, the hems got tangled around the other pole. Fun.
