Finally had a follow-up eye exam at a more up to date facility. Hyperception's and my assessment was right; the previous Optometrist was using out of date equipment and was not keeping them clean. Yes, this doctor agrees that I am developing cataracts, but they are in such an initial stage that with the new prescription I should be able to deal with the slow growth of them for another decade, at least before needing surgery.

I sure do hope so, after getting my new frames and lenses ordered. We hoped to continue to use my decade old Cazal frames, which are still structurally sound except for one temple hinge. Unfortunately, it seems we would have to ship the frames off to the manufacturer in Germany to get them repaired; none of the opticians here seem to be able to order in the part. So, I went with new frames as well as new lenses. $750 later, and the frames were only $120, I hope I'll be as happy with these as I have been with the frames I am retiring...

One week of vacation! I'm going to drive up tomorrow to Wisconsin, spend a couple of days. After that, no real plans.

Well, in our case, these things are what our Income Tax refunds go towards...

I still need massive dentistry done. We are hoping at least some of the costs for the exam and glasses will count towards our "Medically Needy" deductible, which is $212/month. We'll turn in the receipts on Tuesday and hope processing is instantaneous. If so and the deductible is met, I'll get a temporary Medicaid card until the end of the month which will help cover any dentistry, if I can find a Medicaid provider.

But, the work will need to be finished before the end of July, otherwise I'll have to meet another $212 deductible before Medicaid kicks in again.

Still, it is a lot better than most others I hear who qualify for Medically Needy. Their deductibles tend to be around $1200/month. Strictly catastrophic coverage, obviously...

Insurance coverage is what has kept my sister driven towards being consistently employed, in spite of the stress she has gone through in her career and choices she made to keep her coverage I feel has led to her now officially recognized disabled classification by Social Security. I would prefer, and have, gone without medical treatment unless I could cover it, for years. As of right now, it appears I am the far healthier of us two.

Enjoy, High L-rd! Maybe you could get in touch with Owlie and arrange a meet if you'll be near her. She just passed through Gator Town with her family on the way back from Disney, but they hit the Gator Town exit off of I-75 just as I was going in for my eye exam. Very disappointing...

But still, good news about being able to postpone the eye surgery, Menolly!

Today I get to make another trip to Roanoke, this time to take Batty back home. We're going to go see "The Last Airbender" there, too. Then driving home tomorrow. Since most folks headed to the beach last night, and will be driving home Monday, we should miss the worst of the holiday traffic (ali said hopefully).

Bit of a rough day for me. The GF's grandfather died last night, so things have been a little melancholy. Not a huge surprise, he was 84, had a good innings. He's been ill for a while, but mostly he just lost the will to live.

He went relatively easy, don't think he was in pain or suffered much, and he kept his faculties right to the very end, so in all there are worse ways I guess.

On a happier note, I got a parcel of books from Menolly today, which I've thanked her for over at the Hangar, but would like to do so again here. So thanks again Menolly. Really appreciate it.

We shipped them from here a month ago. Since the last time I shipped something internationally did not go so well (from Korea to Costa Rica and it ended up in Guatemala two months later), I am really happy this worked so well.

Maybe the content of the books had an influence on the outcome, eh?

As for the other matter, sorry to hear that. Will raise a glass to the departed gentleman this evening.
