Agreed. Schedule another day off and stick to your guns on it.
There are two advantages to the day you will schedule:
- Since it isn't a holiday, there will be fewer people cluttering up whatever you decide to do...and you have more options, since fewer places will be closed when it is not a holiday.
Pick a day when you can reliably count upon the workload and pressure to be high for your department. Minon and manager can deal with that and gain some karmic awareness of the value proposition of having a happy Sorus working beside them.
After the twelve-day weeks and acquiescing to Minon's entitlement to his holiday,
this is your due.

I have only one week till we get on a plane for 'Mericuh. My two kids will be graduating from the same college (my son took a couple of years off so my daughter caught up with him). Only 4 more days in the classroom. It gets harder and harder every year to say goodbye to the little monsters I have spent most of my time with since the previous August.
So I am very, very tired, have a ton to get done this week, and am very much looking forward to being in the States for a few months and seeing my old Dad and my sisters and my kids.

Have a safe trip, Deer.
Good advice, SD - unfortunately, not likely to actually happen. Boss did offer to comp my cab fare, so that's something. Apparently his wife was robbed on the Stabby Bus, so he was surprisingly understanding of my aversion to that mode of transportation. I still need at least one day off this year for the next round of ghastly dental surgery, so I probably shouldn't push my luck.

Looks like I'm going to be facing some dental stuff myself in the very near future...not happy about that...
Anyway, back at work (and at the Watch) after a 5 day weekend. And only a short week this week, so that's nice.
Not really feeling it though. would much rather be home in bed. Winter is closing in fast...still dark when I arrive at work. Meh.

That sucks. Sorry.
I feel weird when it
isn't dark when I get to work. Feels like I'm wasting time or something. Same on weekends, if I somehow manage to sleep in until the sun is up - I feel like I've wasted half the day. On the flip side, being out after dark at night also feels weird.

Yeah, I'm trying not to think about it.
Only dark here in winter...in summer sun rises around 5am, so for most of it, it's either rising by the time I get up, or is up by the time I get to work.
I hate winter.

My philosophy (regarding dental stuff) is to just get it over with. That's a large part of what has made this whole ordeal so unpleasant - there's a lot of waiting involved. The only silver lining is that I haven't had to pay for it all at once - but at this point I just want it to be done.
I'll trade seasons with you - we're having a heatwave this week. I don't do well in either temperature extreme, but I generally prefer winter.

Winter is too cold and dark. I like summer. Or at least spring.
Ah well, Thursday today. I wonder what fresh horror it holds in store for me...

Thursday fresh horror. Sounds like a weekly thing.

Funny how that works.
I'm a bit frazzled. This week has contained a lot of pointless stress. If I ever manage to go back to school I'm going to to write a thesis about this workplace. My inner anthropologist wants to make popcorn. My inner too-old-for-this-crap (hey, I'm too tired to think of a better analogy) just wants a break.

In my business, fresh horror is an almost daily occurrence.
Ah well, half-day Friday, so could be worse.

Sorus, pointless stress just sucks.
Ave, even a whole Friday is better than any other workday of the week.
Speaking of which...time to get busy.

Apparently I got an award of some sort earlier this month, which no one bothered to mention, but the clique leader somehow found out about, and that's why she had her teeth in my throat all week. Good to know. Some days you just can't win.

You have awards?
Oh well, Monday here we go.

First full week in quite a while...it's going to be a long one...

Yep, Mondays are a unique experience for the working class. There is a feeling of renewal and depression that is almost visible in the air. If Monday were a color it would be blue. Deep, dark, blue.

I really shouldn't complain - I didn't expect my boss to acknowledge that I worked my rear end off last month - I appreciate the intention and the bonus, but with the extra stress from Clique Princess having a drama fit, I think I would have turned it down if that had been an option.

Mine was closer to that shade of green they use for toxic waste in movies.

Well, a bonus is always nice.
I feel like it was a quiet day yesterday...where is everybody?

Ran into an old coworker today - he managed to land on his feet when Borders went under with the sort of job I'd have liked to have. I kicked myself more than once for not sticking it out until the bitter end - maybe my connections would have been worth something. He was just laid off. The place I had an interview with way back when that I've replayed over and over again in my head wondering what I could have done better - that place is gone now. Not that I have any security where I am - that whole industry is a sinking ship, but there really isn't such a thing as job security nowadays. Is it worse than it used to be? I remember when people were expected to pick a career and hold it until they retired. I long for that kind of stability, but was it ever really a thing? There have always been recessions, changes, etc.
I guess I'm just thinking out loud. I'm having a lousy week, but it could always be worse.

Yeah, you could be on fire.
("It could be worse" is one of my favourite coping mantras.

)
Had a day from hell yesterday myself...hoping things calm down a bit today.
Still seems awful quiet...
