Please continue to update us here on how much John is driving y'all crazy. If he does not adapt in a week or so, I seriously think you need to see if there is a way to relocate him until the repairs are done. Whether it is through contacting his family, or the local mental health center. It sounds as if his inability to deal with change (taking care of the rug) or stress caused by impaired sensory processing (the inablilty to tune out the hammering) is going to cause problems for all.
*sigh*
This experience for y'all is eye opening for me as well. I truly do not know how to address situations like this for when Beorn is on his own. I know he will not handle crises typically. The only thing I can come up with is to hope as he becomes an adult that although I pray he'll function well enough to be able to hold a job and not receive SSI, that he will also know to register himself with whatever autism group is local to help in times of crises.
Of course Hyperception and I will always encourage Beorn to call us. And we hope he will one day find that one person to spend his life with. But you say John is in his late 50s/early 60s and it sounds like he's alone. There is always that possibility for Beorn, and I guess Hyperception and I need to prepare for that.

I just found out that I accidentally ordered TWO copies of Fatal Revenant from different bookstores... what am I going to do with the second? *scratches head*

If you can't cancel/return one Xar, could you donate it to a local library or high school library? I know there would be readers who would appreciate it!

I don't think there are nearby, and in any case I doubt Germans would dare pick up an English book which is the second of a tetralogy which in itself is the third part of a series, AND a book which uses strange and unfamiliar vocabulary to boot

Ooo! I like contests!
...as long as I don't have to get creative to enter...

Sounds like John needs to find a place during the day where he can watch tv while the workers are around. If he has no friends to visit during the day maybe a community center.

More reasonable than my suggestion of forcing him to relocate temporarily.

That, Damelon, was the 80,000th post in Gen Disc.
I'm outta here. Cheers all.

Stoney, you're not meeting up with the others on Saturday then? Or are you planning on going to both?

Of course, my geography stinks, so I have no idea how far the Saturday signing would be for you.

So, I am backing a bmw out of the shop so that this vw tuareg can back out of the shop and he backs right into the front of the bmw. Now I have to call my customer and tell them that their car got jacked up by accident. Luckily this guy knows it was totally his fault and has already called his insurance company. Ugh.

My cousin ran off the road a couple of days ago, hit a tree and died. I was a pallbearer today at the funeral. Here is the kicker: I really did not like him, he was a drug addict who neglected his family and had put them through years of shit, he was a redneck, and a racist. While they were putting him in the ground and his sister was crying next to me, I was thinking "Michelle (his wife), and Ashley, (his 7 year old daughter) are most likely going to be better off in the long run because of this". I am a cruel bastard I guess.

Welcome home, Creator.
{{{SBG}}}
Sometimes, even death does not prevent one from reaping what they sow. It sounds as if he earned such thoughts from you. I only hope your thoughts are correct regarding his wife and daughter.

You did the proper thing, you attended at his funeral and did your duty. You're certainly entitled to your private thoughts.

Once Michelle told my wife Ashley that the only reason she had not left him was because she was afraid of what he might do to her, she no longer has anything to fear.

SBG: It's one of those times where the midset that we're all barraged with by the news that EVERY death is a "tragedy." I think it sounds warranted on his part, and I agree that (from what I garner) they'll be better off in the long run.
CJ: THAT SUCKS. Is there any way that the shop or you can be held accountable or anything?
I: amd feeling fine. Went creek stomping today, and my feet were COLD. But it was worth it. SUPER fun.
