As much as I'd like to think positively about this possible move I have to say I'm filled with negativity. Portman's contribution to Star Wars was thorough minus in my mind. I am willing to accept that she was "only following orders" so to speak but the resulting collaboration with Lucas was unpleasant in my opinion. Now Indy. I just don't know what to think.

I have no problem with Portman....I just don't see the need for another Indiana Jone's flick.

I don't see how they'll make a new Indiana Jones without Harrison. Maybe they'll digitally reconstruct images of him from the previous movies, or perhaps they could have a full CGI model? Oh, wait. He's still alive.

I think that this is a rumor that has been debunked.

Go to theRaider.net and scroll to the bottom.

I have to say, while she is a stunningly lovely young lady, I have yet to see the slightest evidence of any acting talent at all. :? I have actually chosen to wait to see V for Vendetta until it comes out on dvd because she is one of the leads. In every movie I have seen her in she shows all of the personality of cardboard. :?

Those would be the three new Star Wars films and Cold Mountain. I disliked her in the Star Wars films so much, I have avoided seeing her in anything else.

Has she done a better job in other films? I might be open to watching one, if several people recommend it.

Duchess, did you see Closer? I think that movie will change your mind.

She was good as a 12-year old in "Teh Professional" with Jean Reno.

Unfortunately, that's the sum of her ability.

I thought she was good in Garden State. I'm not sure what the hell happened in the Prequel Trilogy. I think she must have hated every minute of it. Or she was seriously miscast.

Okay, people, don't mince words about Natalie Portman. :P

I've only seen her in SW, in V For Vendetta, and briefly in Heat. I have my own issues with the SW prequels, but for me, Portman was the least of the trilogy's problems.

I really haven't responded to her acting in any profoundly positive or negative way. I would not have minded Portman playing Indy's daughter, but that's moot now anyway. I'm much more concerned about Indy himself. I still think Harrison Ford will acquit himself well, and I have faith in Spielberg's ability to deliver a great action flick.

Honestly, I don't care who will be in the cast or what the storyline will be. I am going to see Indy 4. Simple as that. :)

I'm pretty much in MMs camp here. I'm going. Portman's performance record isn't 100% tarnished by SW, I heard that in different roles she seems to do just fine. Heck even in SW she wasn't a complete cardboard cutout. I recall in Episode I while she was pretending to be a servant, her character was more the sarcastic pain and therefore borderline entertaining. Lucas is credited with some terrific one liners over the years. None found their way into the prequels but the man is capable. "One things for sure. We're all gonna be a lot thinner." :-)

I will definitely see Indy 4, no doubt about that.

Same here, I will go to the theatre to see Indy 4, the highest compliment I can give a current release as we go see movies in the theatre maybe three times a year.

I agree with dlb about Closer. (Plus, I absolutely love Damien Rice's The Blower's Daughter, although I don't get the impression many other people do. Short clip at www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009V7P8/sr ... 58?ie=UTF8 But I guess that's for Vespers. :)) And I didn't have a problem with her in V, although I was probably going to like the movie no matter what. I think I saw the one where she was pregnant in Wal-Mart, and the movie in general was more the reason I don't remember much of it than any bad acting on her part. (I saw Cold Mountain, but don't remember her at all! Was' up wit dat?)

But as MM says, it's moot. Although I'll definitely see the movie, my greatest fear is that they continue to follow the pattern that odd-numbered Raiders movies are amazingly cool, and even-numbered ones are abominations.

Yeah. How they gonna top finding the Holy Grail?

Then again, Dad Jones has eternal life, right? He can probably do some cool things now.
