Fantasy Football 06-07
I finally got there. Right, lets see where this goes. I hope this makes sense.

Rules
How to score: The points of each player are based upon how they perform in the league.

Budget - 80.0
You must choose 11 players. 1 must be a goalkeeper.
The standard to choose would be:
1 Goalkeepers
4 Defenders
4 Midfielders
2 Strikers
Though it is your choice on formation i.e. you could have:
1 Goalkeeper
4 Defenders
3 Midfielders
3 Strikers

You must put up your mainly 11 who you think will start.
Note: You don't have to stick with the positions I have given the player, you can decide where they go i.e if you don't Henry is a striker, you can put him in defence.

January Transfer Window: On January 1st you can make changes to your squad. You can make a maximum of 3 swaps and they must still reamin within your budget. You'll lose all the points gained by the player you swapped and gain all the points from your new player.
Transfer Window length: 1st Jan - 7th Feb(not 31st like the real Transfer window because there are a lot of deadline day signings).

I have listed the players in their teams:
EDIT: These squads cards will change and be updated since the Transfer window is still open. If you chose a player who is no longer at the club or even in the Premiership, you'll get the chance to replace him.

What did you expect? It's not like this is REAL football or anything....

No, this is the football that is watch and enjoyed throughout the world, where every nation is involved. You know, the most popular sport in the world.

Yeah, I guess it is just us two. Some others miht join. I will put up a list of players once more trnasfers have gone through.

How many points do you get if one of your players falls down after getting his foot stepped on and starts wailing like a banshee who's intestines are being torn out through the nose, until being taken off in a stretcher attached to full life support apparatus?

Don't know but then again football is not a contach sport. I have never played American Football but I have watched it on TV and it look likes Rugby but it involves less skill or tactics. Actually I did see mach becuase it cut to an advert break every 10 minutes and when I was watching the cameras turned to the cheerleaders.

Oh no, not the football vs. football debate again!

To be fair, American football is hugely tactical and the quarterbacks are very skilled indeed. The players that run or block or kick don't seem to do an awful lot except run or block or kick. I think the way the turnovers and possession work allows for a lot more specialisation than you'd normally see in a team sport. Take Rubgy for example; everyone has to be able to play the ball to a decent standard (this is especially true of Rugby League) but obviously the forwards are better at tackling than they are at running (although they are good for 'driving') and you get players like Wilkinson and O'Gara who are exceptional kickers, but their defensive game isn't all it could be. Because the game doesn't stop when a move breaks down, it's more chaotic and becomes less of a head to head tactical battle between the two coaches than American Football.

As for soccer, well in fairness shins, ankles and heels are painful areas to get hit but the amount of writhing around in mock-agony we're currently seeing is poisoning the game. Perhaps referees should be more lenient about tackles to counter this, but would that spell a return to the leg-breaking, two-footed challenges of the Bryan Robson era?

Anyway, on-topic, I'd play a fantasy football thingy. I'm running a leage at work in the official premier league game.

Sorry, I've never played FF before so I'll just ask a couple of questions:

1: Do you mean that I just pick 11 players in my 80.0 cap? What if one gets injured?

2: I'm assuming that GK's & Defenders get points for clean sheets, and strikers for goals. What about midfielders? I'm looking at the Chelsea team as I write this and Lampard (11) vs Makelele (7) seems to indicate that there's not much point getting a defensive midfielder.

3: Why can't I pick Forest players?! I don't give a damn that they're in League One.

Also, the Man Utd link shows the Man City squad. Deliberate?

1. choosing subs would be an idea.
2. General performace throughout a match and season. Major factors for all players.
3. Would be far too confusing because it would mean making moe card sheets.
4. I didn't mean to do that, I'll fix it.

Being particularly slow today i think! So what do we do? Pick players and list them here?

Yep pick your players(must be in your 80 million budget though). List in position or just in a normal formation. I'll do my team and show what is could look like.

Lehmann - Arsenal - 6.0

Boulahrouz - Chelsea - 6.0
Aurelio - Liverpool - 7.0
A Ferdinand - West Ham - 5.0
King - Tottenham - 6.0

Pennant - Liverpool - 7.5
Robben - Chelsea - 9.5
Zokora - Tottenham - 6.5
Fabregas - Arsenal - 8.0

Kuyt - Liverppool - 9.5
Berbatov - Tottenham - 8.0

Cost: 79.0

or... like this

----------------------------------Lehmann(6.0)------------------------
---Boulahrouz(6.0)---A Ferdinand(5.0)---King(6.0)---Aurelio(7.0)
---Pennant(7.5)------Zokora(6.5)----Fabregas(8.0)--Robben(9.5)
------------------------Kuyt(9.5)-------Berbatov(8.0)----------------

Your choice.
That is an example of a team but you don't have to go with hat. You can put players out of position if you think that they will do better there. You can also change formations, doesn't have to be standard 4-4-2, you can have just one attacker or whatever.

OK, still a bit unsure about how the whole thing works, but I've gone with a 3-4-3:

Reina - Liverpool - 6.5

Mellberg - Aston Villa - 5.0
King - Tottenham - 6.0
Neill - Blackburn - 5.0

Downing - Middlesbrough -7.5
Cahill - Everton - 7.5
Gerrard - Liverpool - 10.5
Lennon - Tottenham - 7.5

Berbatov - Tottenham - 8.0
Angel - Aston Villa - 7.0
Saha - Man Utd - 9.5

Total: 80.0

If this lot don't do well then it's not my fault, it's the Two Martin's (O'Neill and Jol). ;)
