EXAMPLE:When I was a teen a Steely Dan song was among the list of things that would make me change the radio station,now I love Steely Dan.Once I heard boring softrock,now I hear intricate,masterfully recorded,well written songs.Tastes change,have you ever done a musical 180?

When I first heard Cheap Trick, I thought "Oh how AWFUL!"
Couldn't stand to hear them on the radio at all.
They happened to be playing at a concert I went to
(U.F.O., Firefall, Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult, & Heart)
and was impressed at their stage performance.
(A 5-neck guitar! And all 5 necks were played during one song.)
Since then, I've s-l-o-w-l-y started to like them more and more.
I've even bought a live CD of Cheap Trick a few years ago.

I wouldn't say love, exactly, but Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" has grown on me. So has most of Anthrax's stuff.

Strangely, my wife and I once picked out CDs for eachother (back in '98, I think). She got me Elephant Riders by Clutch. Could never get into it and sold it. Now it's one of m favorite CDs.

I used to loathe thrash/metal, and still do with some types of it, but now it really gets me charged up....I think it has to have some "musical" quality to it, which is why because maybe now there is a wider variety of metal out there, I'm more likely to find a version of it that appeals to me, heh.....

Meh, they could be good if they didn't sound so much like every other band out there (sing, yell, riff, sing, yell, riff... yawn). And wayyyyy too much synth. Too clean, too videogamey. A few more years would do them well.

totally agree with you Syl, and you definitely have a more versatile and knowledgable ear for this type of music than I, bein a noob and all, heh ....but one thing I must say, and its why I mentioned it, is out of the 40 bands that played at Nickstock, this band was the one EVERYONE was saying "Who's that?"....they were tizzzzight on the stage....

Guns and Roses. I used to hate them but I have to admit now that they are pretty damn good.

country music. didn't lik eit before I married Julie. now I love the left-of-the-dial country/Americana. Willie, Bare jr, Waylon, etc...

I couldn't stand Guns n Roses when they were big. Now I don't mind listending to them (it could simply be a nostalgia thing.)

I can't think of a group or artist I hated, but I was never interested in The Waterboys 20 years ago. Now I love them. Can't get enough of them. They have a great compilation album The Whole of the Moon:The Music of Mike Scott and The Waterboys that I highly recommend.

Irish Music.
My mother used to play it all the time as she was cooking in the kitchen.
I always thought it was horrible.
Now I love it.

The Beastie Boys. To be fair though, when I was first getting in to music they were dong tripe like "fight for your right" and then, when I was about 16 they started doing cool stuff like "3 mc's", "Body Movin'" and "sabotage".

Rap in general. I was one of the haters until more interesting artists started to come out whose rhymes were not all about how great they are. Once it moved beyond that, I could get more interested. De La Soul kind of won me over with the "3 Is A Magic Number" I guess "tribute," as cover is incorrect. De La Soul is Dead is still one of my favorite albums. Dr. Octagon is a lot of fun too, as it is VERY different from...well...much else. Nobody else has ever made a sci-fi concept rap album. If the little porn moments could be edited out, I'd enjoy it that much more.

I hated it when I was pretty much forced to listen to it during car rides with my parents.

Now I'm getting more into it. I think Ray Wylie Hubbard might be my favorite atm.

Cheap Trick: their bad songs are really bad, but their good songs are like crack. Check out Rockford, their last album. I honestly think it may be their best, which is hard to believe, considering it came out 30 years after the first one (which is the other contender for their best album, imo). Their first three albums are all really good. I'd avoid the 80's stuff like the plague.

Dr. Octagonecologyst. The only album Dr. Octagon made, at least under that name. I understand it is an artist known as Kool Keith, but I've not heard any of his other stuff. So if you have trouble tracking it down, you might look under Kool Keith, but any good record store should be able to steer you to it, or online source should be easy to find. If you have the option to sample a bit of it, try the song Blue Flowers first. I heard on it on a CMJ (College Music Journal) CD they put out with the magazine, and realized that I should take a look at this after hearing it was a sci-fi concept album.

Oh, hey...here's a little thingy about it, though more about individual lyrics than the album as a whole. Still, looks like an mp3 of Blue Flowers is on it.

Agreed. Everything about them used to annoy me, but now I have a greater appreciation for their particular talents. I wouldn't say I love them, but they've recorded some great songs.

Placebo would be my choice. I never liked a thing they did until Pure Morning.
That track made me stop and listen properly and realise some of their stuff is pretty good.

I just wanted to mention I used to hate broccoli, and now I love it! I even prefer it raw on a salad, with chunky blue cheese and sunflower seeds and bacon and cheese. oh and lettuce too, heh.
