All Time Favorite Comic Book Story Arcs
Here are my top 5
5) Avengers: The Korvac War. (issues 169-178 or so) The only problem was that George Perez was not the artist for the last battle. Why Marvel...WHY?!!
4) X-Men: Proteus arc. (issues 125-128). Proteus was a great villian. A serial/psychic vampire who controlled reality. Well-drawn and set up the Dark Phoenix saga
3) Superman Death and Rebirth. Early 1990's. Lots of books, lots of characters, and lots of great story telling.
2) Spiderman: Issues 192-200. Chronicled perhaps the worst week of Parker's life, leading up to issue 200 which pitted him against the Burglar...the man who killed Uncle Ben. Great stories about relationships.
1) Batman: Dark Knight Returns.
There are more of course ....these are the ones I can think of right now.
Yours?

I'm going to define Story Arc as a greater-than-two run of a regular series. So I won't include: several single- and two-issue stories in various titles; Dark Knight Returns; The Watchmen; Grendel's Devil by the Deed; etc.
Miller's DD. Both the first, longer run, and the superb Born Again.
Batman: Year One
The Legion's Great Darkness Saga.
Simonson's Thor, through the death of Odin. The first four issues, which introduced Beta Ray Bill, are extraordinary.
Moore's Swamp Thing, through issue #50.
The Hands of Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu 115-118.
The beginning of Dreadstar. Through #14, at the very least.
Addition: The Maelstrom arc in Quasar.
Well, that's a start.

Well, the Grey Hulk had been back since #324, but in this run, the Green Hulk returns, Bruce gets back with Betty, Doc Samson realizes the different Hulks are a result of banner suffering from MPD, so he treats him and the result is a 'merged' Hulk, who is green, with the intelligence of Banner, mean streak of the Grey Hulk, and the compassion of the Green Hulk.

As already mentioned by Fist: "Simonson's Thor, through the death of Odin. The first four issues, which introduced Beta Ray Bill, are extraordinary"
I'll never forget reading that first issue with Simonson.
I was just blown away and it just never stopped.
The Silver Surfer arc with the Elders up to his saving Galactus was excelent.
the whole Adam Warlock/Thanos/Magus arc was great too.
As was the Infinity Gauntlet.
I guess I like the cosmic stuff the best!

Doh! I was looking online for issue numbers for that, but didn't find it, and forgot to mention it. EXCELLENT stuff!High Lord Tolkien wrote:The Silver Surfer arc with the Elders up to his saving Galactus was excelent.
I think the Dreadstar stuff is reprinted. The Metamorphosis Odyssey, The Price, and the original Epic issues. Damn!!High Lord Tolkien wrote:I guess I like the cosmic stuff the best!

I don't think anyone else here has ever mentioned liking it, but I think it's as good as anything else Starlin ever did. The power levels are way off the charts. The scope of time is... well, I don't know how many millions of years. The emotions in some of the issues are downright chilling. And if you're a fan of Starlin's art!

oh yeah, I loved Project Pegasus too.
I think it might have been when I started to expand my collection beyond the basics.
Something about not really knowing (just kinda knowing) all those characters made it so much more interesting for me.

Project Pegasus was indeed a good run; I still have those books in my collection.
