I was watching Classic VH1 over the weekend and saw Eddie Trunk ranting about TR&RHoF, and I was compelled to agree with him.

It's a joke.

Bob Marley, Etta James, Hank Williams, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, The Jackson Five, Miles Davis, P-Funk, Mahalia Jackson, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Billie Holliday, Isaac Hayes, Michael Jackson, Buddy Guy....Good musicians, but they ain't rock 'n roll.

And yet, no Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, King Crimson, Van Halen, Rainbow, or Deep Purple.

Issac Hayes clearly doesn't belong, but I'd argue the rest contributed alot to the Pantheon of R & R in very maningful ways.

Deep Purple gave us "the riff", BOC and JP are clear omissions...maybe Rush too... but as to the rest of your list, feh.

Van Halen especially was kind of liteweight in a creative sense. Eddies guitar style was gimmicky and none of 'em could write a song that was worth more than the vinyl it was printed on. Iron maiden...yawn.

*flees*

I'm sorry, Miles Davis is a genius, but he damn sure isn't a rocker, and has no place in the Hall of Fame.

Van Halen may be lightweights, but they are the archtypical American hard-rock band. And if being a lightweight is a disqualifier, throw out The Police, The Lovin' Spoonfull, Fleetwood Mac, and The Mamas and the Papas.

You heathen bastard, how dare you dis Iron Maiden?!?

no Badfinger?

Badfinger was a one-hit wonder that really didn't do much for rock 'n roll. I'm OK with their omission.

they were much more than a one hit wonder. check out the body of their work. from the Ivey's until Warner Bros. shut them down. Peter Ham was an amazing song writer. Molland a great straight ahead rocker. Evans a terrific counterpoint to Ham.

Sadly, though I like Badfinger, they were a one-hit wonder.

C'mon Luci, you can't seriously argue that Badfinger was a rock 'n roll machine. They were a decent band, but they're a footnote in music.

This is what kills me about TR&RHoF...It's supposed to be a hall of fame....That means not everyone gets in, just the cream of the crop. As much as I loathe KISS, it's insane that they're not in, ditto with The Cars, or the other bands I listed.

IOW, just because you've been around more than 25 years (Tom Petty) doesn't mean you get in.

KISS, even though I think they suck, has sold a pile of albums, revolutionalized music merchandising, and influenced a pile of bands.

The Cars, in addition to having some great songs were pioneers in keyboard sequencing and were arguably the best-produced band of the '80s.

Yes Jenn, it's a crime that Judas Priest wasn't inducted the second they were eligible.

What about Pat Benatar? I think she should be let in. And before you have a fit Cail, she was a huge success in the eighties.

For the record, I love Pat Benatar, and want to get real sweaty with her.

Bad Company and Steppenwolf, absolutely.

Boston......I can't be objective about Boston, I really hate 'em.
